Just received my first ever G&L - an L-2000 with a serial number that dates to mid-2005. I found it several states away on CL and after a few phone calls, convinced the seller -- a multi-instrumentalist horn player who gigged with this a handful of times and never intends to play bass again, to ship it $600 all in. Worth taking the risk, as the condition and build quality appear to be excellent. Came with G&G G&L case. After cleaning it, putting on a new set of Rotosounds, and setting the intonation, it plays very well. No wonky neck, like I've seen with some of them. Already appreciating the fullness and variety of tones. Initial impression: This is a bass I can dive into with some serious attitude.

Wow!! Congrats!
Not only was a killer price but it's an amazing bass. I like the finish too. Enjoy! :D

Are you kidding me?! You got a Fullerton G&L for $600?! That is awesome! What a killer deal, especially for such a versatile bass. Great find, man! I would have jumped all over it for that price too, even though I am not a humbucker guy.

I actually put a Swing 66 set on my G&L recently, too. I use them for my Ricks, but the G&L needed some strings and I didn’t have anything else handy. I put them on it and played it for a couple minutes then it sat untouched for a week or so because I didn’t like them at all on that bass. So, I got an NYXL set for it and it sounds amazing.

Anyway, maybe the Rotosounds will sound better on your L-2000 than my MJ-4.

I never really "got" what a Rick is capable of until I ran it stereo a few times in my college band. We used to call it the "Piano of Doom". You get all the bottom and all the top in total a**kicking mode.

Thanks for the suggestion on strings. I'll give the NYXLs a try. Yes, I definitely lucked out with this deal. Makes up for a few of the dead ends, anyway!

Spend about an hour and play with all the different switch options, that bass has an amazing tonal variations. I had a 98 G&L L-2000 and loved that bass.
