I love the sounds of those 80s and 90s songs with fretless basses in them. Paul Young's version of "Every Time You Go Away". The two Gilmour Pink Floyd albums have fretless basses with that same sound. I'm thinking maybe chorus or slight flange?

I’m pretty sure it’s chorus.

I have been chasing that tone for years. The secret - IMO - is stereo chorus with a touch of compression. And a good engineer who'll boost it in the Mix :-)
