These appear to be going up in value lately. I got mine for around 300 euros several years back, with the original (rare) brown lefty case with green lining. I don't play it a lot, but when I do it always brings a smile to my face. It's heavy, the neck redefines "chunky", but the tone is to die for. Ibanez really was onto something around 1980. The Musician, Roadster and Studio basses all are just plain AWESOME. I have an RS924, two MC924's and a righty ST924 and all four are crazy good basses. I wish they made a lefty Studio bass too, but unfortunately that's the only one they didn't have lefty! It just sounds incredible.

Regarding the RS924: what do you like more, the active or the the passive sound? And what string do you use the most on the RS924? (I've recently had the cnage to buy one, along with the brown/green case). I'm still working on that string-story btw. Right now, it's strung with Thomastik Infeld Jazz Flatwounds (TI Flats).

I like active mode best, I like the slight added top end attack that gives me. Stringwise, when I bought it I got two sets of very light (I believe .040-.095) Warwick Red Label stainless steel roundwound strings with the bass. Cheap, and usually a tad too thin to my liking, but I actually like the feel and sound so far. Bright, but not overly so. They don't suffer much wear because I don't play it very often, so the current set has been on the bass for at least 2 years and still sounds great to my ear.

Did Ibanez ever make lefty models of their “Bean” bass range? Can’t remember the model numbers.

That would be the RB888 and MC888 from the mid 80s. I don't think I've ever seen a lefty.
