For your consideration is a rare lefty 1978 Guild B-302. It’s nowhere near mint cosmetically (see pics). It was like this when I bought it 14 years ago. However, the wear is purely cosmetic; it’s built like a tank and plays exceptionally well.

The bass is all stock. Mahogany body with a thick 3-piece mahogany neck, set-neck design, rosewood fretboard, 1 5/8” nut width, 34” scale, two wide single-coil pickups, Schaller tuners. Pickup controls are V/T/V/T with 3-way pickup selector switch. Chrome-plated brass bridge with tilt adjustment.

The baseball bat neck and tilt-adjustable bridge provides from some low action; I’ve included a pic of the 12th fret with the E string fretted at the first and last frets. I haven’t spent much time adjusting it; you might be able to get the action even lower.

When the bridge pickup (only) is selected, the tone pot acts as a volume control. However, it works correctly as a tone roll off when both pickups are selected. Not sure what this means (bad cap? grounding?), but I’ll let you address it if you want to.

The bass is neck-heavy, and a prior owner created a strap-button hole on the back near the base of the neck. Someone also made two extra strap holes on the upper bout.

Comes with a late-70’s / early 80’s Guild case I recently bought from a store in Nashville. The case is missing the Guild logo on the outside but looks absolutely legit based on some recent Ebay sales of Guild basses from that era.

Bass weighs 8.8 lbs. on my bathroom scale.

$800 plus insured shipping to CONUS. Ships from San Jose, California 95128.

Thanks.

Geoff

Awesome. These sound incredible. Poor man's Rickenbacker.

Just beautiful! Time to get out the drool bucket. Just curious. Why are you selling it?

Thanks for the nice comments.

I'm selling it because I don't play it much and I'm on a quest to keep only what I need. I have three other bass guitars and I don't really play much bass anymore anyway (I spend most of my music time playing acoustic guitar now).

Putting this bass on the block was not an easy decision because I know probably won't be able to replace it later. It seems like lefty B-301s and 302s come up every 3-5 years or so. But I know it's the right decision. It deserves to be played and appreciated more often.

Also, there are a few very specific things I'd be interested in trading for (with cash going my way or yours to even things out, of course):

- a fine lefty acoustic guitar with a wide neck (at least 1.75" at the nut and 2.25" at the bridge)
- a fretless lefty Guild B301 or B302 :)
