That is no faker. That is the real deal. That is a steal for $1000. I am almost tempted to pursue it myself.

Late 70's/Early 80's? Tuners look to be replaced. And is the pickguard original? Otherwise, assuming there's nothing suspicious under the hood, a great deal on a Rick.

Looks like it may have been stripped to natural. The wood choice doesn't seem right for a natural finish from Rickenbacker.

There may be something to that - check out that major blemish on the back! And the pickguard and bridge look like they have something white around the edges?

If you look closely at the first picture on the right. The lower horn appears to have a strap button hole put there of course by a righty. It's not a clear enough shot but it looks like it might have been filled, possibly during the refi. If its is filled and under the finish that would answer the refi question. I'm not at all knowledgeable on Ric's, as far as it being white, would they have put a solid color over the neck thru lamented body and neck? If it is refinished I would think it would have originally been a transparent finish. The knot on the back side would be in question in at case however. As I said I'm not knowledgeable on Ric's just trying to learn. I find these mysteries interesting.

Yeah I'm betting that's been stripped. That is some ugly maple. That being said, I love it and would rock that in a heartbeat as is. 8-)

Agreed!

Edit: one wouldn't feel bad about carving it up like Lemmy's, either.

I don't recall ever seeing a Mapleglo with a black pickguard and silver bridge, so I would definitely guess it has been stripped.

If pickguard is original, chances are it used to be Fireglo, Jetglo or that burdungy-like color, no?

I would think it was one of those white tuxedo types. All the finishes you mention had the white pickguard I do believe.

Is that "Bondo" in the G string nut slot (which may have previously been slotted for an E string)?

I remember seeing a fireglo-like finish with a black pickguard, and also a black-on-black version, although I don't think the latter was 70's/80's.

To me it just looks chipped on both sides. I could be wrong, though.

This would be the perfect ric for a guy like me who can't leave anything alone. I wouldn't be afraid to make some changes to it.

There were definitely Mapleglo Ricks made with black pickgards/chrome hardware. In fact,t a lefty friend of mine owns a lefty one too (He'd cringe if he knew I'm sharing this video, :lol):

His bass was available at Rudy's in NYC on 48th St. back around 2000? I tried it out and told him about it.
