Thanks, Death! I noticed how my tone is just on/off. Kinda sucks as mine has the cool old school/modern push/pull bridge pot.

No problem!
The push/pull pot is no problem. He can do that for you. I had him include it in the harness he made for my v63, and I leave it on "vintage" all the time as I run in stereo and get plenty of beef from the neck pickup (but I am always tweaking, so that may change ).

The push/pull just turns on/off a .0047μf capacitor in series with the bridge pickup. The old Ricks had this capacitor as standard. A lot of people removed them from old Ricks to get some extra thickness from the bridge pickup, so it was eventually discontinued. But, I guess a lot of other people then wanted a more vintage Rick sound, so RIC came up with the push/pull idea.

Thanks Matt, Death, and Az!

I can't believe I never knew about this. I've been playing electrics for 32 years and I never could figure out why my Fender tone knobs just worked like on/off switches - or my Rick 12 string either. I just thought that was normal for everyone. Wow.

I've also got a Gibson and a Bachbird. I'm going to be checking all of them like some conspiracy theorist looking for the Illuminati! In the words of Jimbo Jones, "Now I don't believe in nuthin'!"

The crazy thing is, I'm not usually a fan of second guessing guitar designers by replacing things on my instruments unless something breaks. So I'll need a bit of a think as to whether or not I buy replacement pots and change the sound. But if the sound is wrong in the first place....but, but....Agggghhh!

You shouldn't need to replace any parts. You can just desolder any leads connected to the left lug of the pot and resolder to the right lug of the pot (or vice versa). The knobs will then work backwards from what you're used to, but the adjustment should have a nice consistent, gradual response through the turn.

Correct! But, to be clear, the wiring harnesses I was referring to made by Aceonbass for Rickenbackers do use components different from stock; the pot values are optimized for single-coil pickups.
