Love that, but what's the deal with the bridge?

Bridge seems ok, just looks like someone did some janky shit to anchor that E string (unless my eyes deceive me).

I was wondering the same thing Pete. My old eyes couldn't figure it out even after enlarging the photos, Matt. You know what they say about getting old. I figured someone here would figure it out. Funny the seller doesn't address it.

Looks like a little bit of tube, maybe to extend the string for a bit to keep the cloth winding of the string from dampening the string on the saddle.

I just looked again. Whatever that protrusion is, it's definitely coming out of the opening that the E string passes through.

No, I think it's between the bridge and the ball end, and is not attached to anything :)

I think the seller broke the ball end of the E string and pressed the wind on some metal at the end to still use the old broken string. Didn't want to find another string

Yeah, looks like he's routed the E string through it - notice where the felt is at the headstock...

I'd guess it's to accommodate full-scale strings.

Sweet bass though.

There's hope yet. I never bid on anything until the last few minutes.

I believe it is the Gary Willis's trick to extend a string. Probably a normal scale E string that has the silk going over the top nut without it.

Why did you have to resurface this?!? I was hoping I could ignore it and it will just go away... :-) I will be sad to see this one go... But I really don't need it right now... Good luck with whomever gets it!

Regardless of the bridge extension, the tuner winding job is horrible!

Yes to both--good/great price and relatively rare. Of course, "market conditions" dependent... depending on demand, could go as high as $1200... a handful have hit the market in the last 3 years or so (I can quickly think of three). I love my 77 with La Bella flatwounds...

I certainly wish I still had my '78. The pickup & electronics are total shit, so I removed it all and installed an Aero Musicmasterer. It was heavenly I tell you.
