Saw this at Winter NAMM in 2008... wanted one then, but they didn't have lefties in production at the time. The demos sounded very good for having no body. Glad to see the lefty version is now available, and the price is good too!

It looks like they went the right direction in using a MM-style pickup with larger pole pots, since a bass with no body to speak of would have to rely chiefly on it's pickup for the majority of it's sound.

Adirondack's also showing a lefty Travel Escape bass as well. I'd be curious to hear how they compare:

The Traveler is cool too. It's a 32" scale, so much closer to a fullscale instrument than the BassStar. I wonder what they sound like with that undersaddle transducer. They sure look good!

When I was at NAMM last year, the salesman told me the scale was a true 34" scale. I found the brochure I got at their booth, and went to the website. The neck is 34" scale on the basses. Adirondack got it wrong - 25.5" is the length for their guitar models.

I would like to hear the fretless model....

Not bad at all. Those metal bars holding the strap look a bit odd, but pretty well thought out when you consider the bass has to balance and hang comfortably without the benefit of a body.

I don't see a bridge on the bass though, though I'm sure there's got to be something there(?). The Traveler bass looks like it would be pretty limited in this respect since it looks like it basically has just an angled acoustic guitar-style plastic bridge with no ability to adjust height, intonation, etc. I wonder how it works on the BassStar though.
