Was this possibly Matt's old refurbished Sabre?

I wondered that, too, but I don't think so. His was dinged up around the edges. But the year and the color match.

I didn't know that. I had 2 and sold one.

Yep. There was a single production run of lefties made the first week of March, 1980. I own one, and I've actually kept a log of all lefty Sabres I've spotted over the years. Every one of them had serial#s within a few numbers of mine. They were supposedly far less popular than Stingrays and therefore much rarer, yet I've seen far more Pre-EB lefty Sabres than Stingrays over the years. (By "far more" I really mean about 5 or 6 vs. about 2).

That is interesting that they all fell in March '80 that was when Leo was making his break from Musician and starting G&L. The very first G&Ls were made right around then also - it's just weird to think both brands were being made in the same factory on Fender Ave. in Fullerton at the same time.

I had a Stingray and a Sabre; both were March 1980. Dan Lakin told me about the lefty run back in '93, when he was selling used Musicman basses, a few years before Lakland. He was very helpful to me finding parts for my Ray.
