and a Sire
You, sir, are an enabler.
All of you are enablers!
This is why I need something to shut my phone off when I have had more than one beer. "All the clips of these sound really good. What one should I get? Eh, to hell with it. I will just get one of each and make an awesome video showing the tonal difference between Ash/Maple and Alder/Rosewood. Nevermind that I already bought a Fender Japan Jazz in January and have a G&L on the way. It will be cool." Haha! Well, these showed up last week:
They sat on my front porch in the cold for a few days while I was out of town which I am not happy about, but there is nobody to blame for that, really. It was more of a comedy of errors. They seem to be no worse for the wear, anyway.
These are pretty sweet. They sound great and feel pretty solid. But to say that these are as good as a $1400 bass or something like that is kind of a stretch.
The Alder/Rosewood showed up with too much neck relief and higher action than you might excpect, even with the saddles all the way down. The finish is a little faded, but it is a B-stock.
The Ash/Maple has a loose jack, a ding in the back of the neck, and some small finish flaws.
Again, not a big deal. They sound and play great, which is far and away more important than any other qualities that make a great instrument. But, claiming that they are of the same quality as bass of substantially higher cost, I don't quite understand.
The G&L showed up today, so now I am up to my neck in basses!

If anyone gets a Sire here, you know you're required to do an endless YouTube slapping/wanking demo, right?
Yeah, no kidding. That got old quick. There are only about 100 videos demonstrating this bass to some Lionel Richie groove with a bass line that has abour 50 times too many notes!

I never really "got" what a Rick is capable of until I ran it stereo a few times in my college band. We used to call it the "Piano of Doom". You get all the bottom and all the top in total a**kicking mode.
