That's a serious grout.

The EQ booths.

Be careful with the trouble. Trouble is when you go to slap and you hurt people's sinuses, so just use it with caution.

Hear how it gets louder, more hungrier like a duck.

A unique subset of language that only they use. A charismatic figurehead that everyone wants to emulate. Fanatical devotion by its followers....

Boys, I think we have the makings of a cult.

Seriously, though. There was a 22-page thread on TB asking the Sire fanboys to knock off the advocacy. It was only live for day before the mods locked it. I didn't read that one.

Not the aggressive sound you're looking for, but I just dig this tune:

Everything in the recording is probably different, but I like the sound on the Dunlop Session more (also more than the album version, btw)

I agree. The problem is, that's his Fender model, not the Sire. So like two grand new instead of four hundred. (And not available in lefty.) :D

So true. So true. :) And probably a multi-dollar chain behind it, too. ;)

But, what I read and hear about the Sires is sometimes just a tad hyped, reading between the lines that it is a 'be all, end all' bass. But no doubt, it's a helluvalot for the moneyz. :)

The hype has been off the rails. Business schools should use it as a marketing case study. It's like when BMW put the then-new Z3 in the movie GoldenEye; it was a magic recipe of promotion.

You can get one if you go through the Custom Shop... there was a controversial NOS lefty on eBay a couple years ago.

Here's the original thread...

Did Funky John Bocan buy that one? Can't remember.

That James Bond thing continues to work... they put him in some Danner hiking boots for the last movie and I guess they were backordered for 6 months because of that.

I have to say, though, that I feel like I'm one of the few people who has not been consumed by the Sire hype. My naturally skeptical brain won't buy into it. I'm reminded of the SX madness that happened a few years ago where hundreds of people were all talking about how amazing they were... and then thousands more bought the things and A LOT of people ended up with absolute pieces of shit. Now, you never hear about them... it's like they disappeared. For all I know, they actually did.

I mean, it's not like these overseas manufacturers would ever stoop so low as to purposely lose money on the first few hundred instruments sent out to the public and/or first batch of "name players" and make them absolutely kick ass MIA Fender level instruments in order to build the hype thus reeling people in, only to then completely cut production costs and start pumping out total shit after they have everybody's money, would they? :?

Sorry... that's how my brain works.

I'm tempted to buy one just so I can see for myself... but I can't do it. :|

I think that everything you said is true, but that if anything it only fed into the hype. Folks saw the price as only going up and the QC as only going down. And they're bound to be right on one or both points eventually. The market just has a way of correcting these things.

But for me personally, I'd been wanting a jazz clone for a while, and had been weighing the relative merits of various new and used models with or without possible upgrades. Then the V7 came along and checked all the right boxes as-is at a very good price and at a time when I was too busy to tinker. So the novelty and hype helped, but at the end of the day it fit an existing want.

BTW, interesting story about that lefty Fender MM. I should have guessed it was possible. But then we're getting back to comparing a V7 to a Fender CS and FEEDING THE GIANT HYPE MACHINE MOAR!

If anyone gets a Sire here, you know you're required to do an endless YouTube slapping/wanking demo, right?

I believe the proper term is "slapsturbation."

I have emailed Sire twice to see if the '75 reissue will be available in left handed and have not heard back yet. I called today and got a recorded message. I would love one of those '75 reissue V7 models black/maple with black binding and block inlays. That is one sexy bass!! If anyone has any info on lefty availability on this model please let me know.

Same here, I emailed many times to purchase a V7 in the new red color with maple neck, and also to purchase / reserve a lefty M7.

No answer...

It is crazy to see that I want to buy 2 basses but they just don't care to answer!

Their products are great but their service is miserable...

You, sir, are an enabler.

All of you are enablers!

This is why I need something to shut my phone off when I have had more than one beer. "All the clips of these sound really good. What one should I get? Eh, to hell with it. I will just get one of each and make an awesome video showing the tonal difference between Ash/Maple and Alder/Rosewood. Nevermind that I already bought a Fender Japan Jazz in January and have a G&L on the way. It will be cool." Haha! Well, these showed up last week:
Image

They sat on my front porch in the cold for a few days while I was out of town which I am not happy about, but there is nobody to blame for that, really. It was more of a comedy of errors. They seem to be no worse for the wear, anyway.

These are pretty sweet. They sound great and feel pretty solid. But to say that these are as good as a $1400 bass or something like that is kind of a stretch.

The Alder/Rosewood showed up with too much neck relief and higher action than you might excpect, even with the saddles all the way down. The finish is a little faded, but it is a B-stock.

The Ash/Maple has a loose jack, a ding in the back of the neck, and some small finish flaws.

Again, not a big deal. They sound and play great, which is far and away more important than any other qualities that make a great instrument. But, claiming that they are of the same quality as bass of substantially higher cost, I don't quite understand.

The G&L showed up today, so now I am up to my neck in basses!

Yeah, no kidding. That got old quick. There are only about 100 videos demonstrating this bass to some Lionel Richie groove with a bass line that has abour 50 times too many notes!

Smokes, dude, you're going to have to take a week off work!

Edit: I was just wondering today if your MJ had arrived yet. Can't wait to hear your impression of it, esp compared to the Sires.
