Great looking bass, and as a few of the other posts noted G&L is a great bass for the dollar. For this one note sure I like the pickguard.

Here is a good page for G&L Pick guard replacements (lefty accommodating)

Good catch! Apart from the addition of the thumb rest, it does look mighty similar, and I bet there aren't that many gold versions with that pick guard lurking out there.

With nothing better to do on a late night watching the tube, I took - too much time! - looking long-and-hard at the pickguards, and don't think they are the same bass. After looking as closely as I could at the two guards, I feel they aren't the same bass. Happy to be proven wrong though!

Hmmm not sure I can prove you wrong but I seen a story where they were trying to prove someone had the same Strat that Bob Dylan used when he played electric, alot of the details were the same but the one that sealed the deal was some great clarity photos that showed when you zoom in the same wood grain in both guitars. The used the fact that the detail of the wood grain is much like a finger print and coupled with all the other info proved it was the same guitar.

Here we cannot do that, I did the same I downloaded pictures from both guitars then zoomed in on the pick guard. I have an attachment that shows the same zoomed in area around one screw but due to poor pic quality hard to say its the same but the footprint looks similar. Again way too much work to really prove but it is a cool bass and G&L play great.

Looks the same to me! And not a lot of people order lefty basses with that combo of colors of the body and pickguard! :)

I did the same thing, where I zoomed in on various regions of the pick guards, including the area you have circled. Although the area you circled looks similar, just to the right of your circle, to me, that area looks dissimilar, and is one of the areas that led me to believe they aren't the same bass. It is indeed hard to verify when one photo is of good quality, and the GC photo is a bit too grainy to blow-up for a good comparison. I still feel they are two separate basses....

Is it possible that two pickguards could have the same pattern, as if they were made from a print?

(FWIW, they look the same to me.)

The original seller of a gold sparkle G&L LB-100 said, "I am moving to (northern/central) California, so I will be willing to make a deal out there. All gear that I do not sell is coming with me."

Then a potential buyer in Sacramento responded and said he was very interested.

Now there's a gold sparkle G&L LB-100 for sale in Sacramento.

You know, it just might be the same bass!

Yes it is the same bass. I almost bought it at the time when it was posted here for $650. I really love the look. The guy had it for sale on craigslist Sacramento for almost a year. He is asking $850 if I recall.
