I kinda like it the way it is, but at that price a quality refin could be an affordable option.

Yeah. It's a super cool bass but it screams "project".

Thanks. I'm not Fender expert, but this one seems like an odd ball. I understand the headstock logo changed in late 76, but the heel stamp ending in "3333" doesn't make sense to me. Based on my research, it appears the heel stamp and headstock logo are at odds?

It appears pots are also not original, but I'm not too concerned about it. I honestly don't even play much anymore, and I've never played Fenders...just have always wanted a 76...worst case scenario, I have a bass with character that is 'around' my desired year for not too much cash :)

Bridges with the long G intonation screw on the were used from 69 - 73. So another question mark. Could be a replacement along the way.

Good to know. So maybe a '73 neck and a '76 body?...I would still like to have a 'full' 76 one day, but this is close enough for now I guess!

Bass arrived mid-week, hoping to really dig in this weekend. But first impression is actually very positive.

The good: TONS of mojo, this bass has been there. Neck is solid, and I really dig the sound. I've never been a fan of P basses, but I've also never played anything before a '93. Maybe it's just my imagination, but I think this sounds better than other P basses I've played.

The questionable: The neck is legit, and after tons of research, I've seen several late '76 lefties with the same logo. The stamp is still weird though...the last 4 digits "3333" are throwing me off...maybe I'm just confused on how to interpret neck stamps. Pick ups appear to be original, but not sure. They're definitely old! :) The pots are almost definitely not original. Finally, just a couple of other rough spots that would cause concern in a newer bass, but for this one I chalk up to 1970's manufacturing and 39 years of use.

Going off memory here. Please correct me if I got a date wrong: --> Neck Stamp at heel.... <0101 3333>

01 = Precision Bass
01 = Rosewood Fingerboard
33 = Week 33
3 = 1973
3 = Wednesday

Correct on the stamp...what's confusing is that this particular headstock logo wasn't used in 73 according to my research. Maybe a) it's a 73 neck that sat around for a few years before they threw a logo on it and assembled b) I'm just confusing/misinterpretting my research or c) a classic case of "lefty is different"...?

Regardless, I'm happy with it, and I choose to believe it's a '76 since that's what I've been looking for :D

My lefty P includes parts from 66 and 68; I've always called it a 68 cause I can only assume that's when they grabbed the parts and assembled it. I think we often find lefty cases where they grabbed parts that were "lying around."

Glad you're happy with the purchase.
