Nice!

I'm guessing this started life as a sunburst bass?

I'm pretty sure that I bought that bass a few months ago and had to initiate an eBay claim on it because the seller wouldn't take it back. They failed to mention in the description that the bass had been refretted and all the finish taken off from the neck and fretboard, and it was a real dog all around. I just can remember the specifics, but I was unable to make it playable. You can see in the picks that the truss rod nut is pretty recessed.

I'm 99% sure it's the same bass and the seller was from Texas as well, so chances are. . .

I went for it because it has an A neck, just like a good '73 P a have, and to me, a '70s P-Bass with an A neck is the Holy Grail. But never buy a vintage instrument sigh-unseen without a return policy! ;)

Well that makes me feel better about it haha. Looks like I'm going back to the plan of building my own walnut (color not wood) P

Neck finish looks original to me Carlos, maybe it's the 1% chance it wasn't the bass you had? Do you mean the neck was re-finned too, or it was raw wood?

Here's the s/n 512377, if that helps to ID whether this is the bass in question.http://www.ebay.com/itm/73-FENDER-PRECI ... 7675.l2557

I just looked in my eBay purchase history and I found the transaction, which happened in Jan 2012, but not the item listing. I thought it was "months ago," but it was years ago.

The fretboard had no finish for sure -- raw wood. I can't remember if it looked like it was a fret leveling job or a re-fret, but they wiped off the finish in the process. (By looking at the pictures in this new eBay listing I can tell that the frets look original, so it was probably a fret leveling job that they did.) I also thought that the neck had no finish, but it doesn't look like so in the pics. But I'm pretty sure it's the same bass. I also remember that the tuners were shot (rusted, not working) and the refinish was really crude (like varnish applied by hand). If the neck and the frets would've been good, the bass would've been worth it and playable. I never saw the truss rod nut before I bought the bass; I'd have not bought it if I had.

Not to sound trollish, but man this bass looks like a hunk of shite overall. I'd run away from this one
