Back in April, a fellow Rick enthusiast recommended Dave's Guitar Shop (
http://davesguitar.com). They quoted me only $1899. I'm not sure if that included shipping or not as I never pursued it any farther. The 12-18 month lead time they estimated seemed so far away. Now, here we are! I almost wish I would have ordered one now, but I love my 4003, which I already had, and I never buy a bass assuming I can sell it for enough to justify the risk of not liking it.
I am really curious as to what they sound like. I'm sure it's very close to the standard maple, but I would like to give it a try just to see if it has any noticeable character to it. If the walnut doesn't give it any extra of that signature Rick grind/growl/belch that I love, then I will pass. If it does, I might quickly develop a serious "life priorities" problem.

I never really "got" what a Rick is capable of until I ran it stereo a few times in my college band. We used to call it the "Piano of Doom". You get all the bottom and all the top in total a**kicking mode.
