interesting, I wonder if that pic is from Ric's factory??

IMHO I was thoroughly unimpressed with the Walnut finish on the righty's displayed at NAMM '14. The wood felt really soft and again IMHO the finish would be very prove to dents, dings and beer stains.

Btw, if these basses are using a tung oil finish it's very easy to redo yourself at some point in the future.. I re-did the oil finish on my Warwick Streamer Stage 1 when I got it and it came out beautifully. Plus, dents and dings don't show up as much on an oil finish as they do on a hard finish. Also, beer just runs right off an oil finish like water off a duck's back... which I've seen a lot of lately up here in B.C. ;)

Is it only me when I look at that walnut and maple and think why is that ugly white pickgaurd on there? It looks like a lobster bib on a big fat guy at Red Lobster. Maybe I'm just remembering the last time I went out to eat :D

Hey Joe, I was wondering about the pick guard a little bit too... what do you think would look best? Tort? Black? Mother of toilet seat? Gold anodized? Ideas anyone?

it's been a while of course, since I saw these. I believe it's a thin poly finish on the body and neck. I don't think Ric has ever used an oil or varnish finish that I can recall of. Bottom line for me was that whatever that finish was/is it didn't feel durable and gig-worthy. Now, that being said, who knows how thick the finish will be 11 months after the initial preview at NAMM.

That being said, I think I'm going to call Dave's Guitars of Wildwood tomorrow and find out when they will be arriving. You can amongst bet those will be among the 1st dealers to get them :)

That is a great picture.
I would rather see them with a black pickguard and walnut position markers or at least an 'aged' perloid so that they would stand out a bit more against the maple of the board.

Absolutely - I adore the walnut (that and Cocobolo have long been my favorite woods) but the maple board really is not doing it for me at all.

Again, my memories are almost a year old, but I recall the boards not being so bright. The brightness could be a function of the lighting used in the warehouse. They were def more yellow when I saw them. I thought it was a nice combination of colors at the time.

I just got the word on these... apparently, all 9 of them are spoken for and I believe they're going to the UK to fill existing orders. Bogus.

Bollocks indeed!!! ...and of course, if one ended up as stock at one of the UK dealers, to get it back here would cost far too much. I believe they're selling those things for at least £1700 or so. Or about $2800 US plus shipping getting it back. The Canadian Rickenbacker dealer is retailing right handed 4003Ws for $1875 Canadian. Maybe, if enough of us get together... we could get Rickenbacker to do another production run of lefties... in 6 months to a year. :(
