I'll be travelling to Lake George NY this week and will make my requisite stop to see my old pal and former Jersey guy Dennis in Hudson Falls. Anyone care to have any basses checked out at his shop? Let me know ,we're leaving tomorrow.

I've never been a fan of acoustic basses, largely because I've yet to encounter one that could project without amplified, but I would be curious to hear your opinions and comparisons of some of the models he has, particularly the Boulder Creek, Warwick Alien, and Goldtone Resonator. My recollection of the Boulder Creek when I played one at NAMM was it wasn't half bad.

Cool that you are going there. I was there once a few years ago. There are many basses in boxes in the back so you have to know what to ask for - you should check out the website to see what they have. I like G&Ls so if you get a change ask to play one of them; I'd be most interested in an L2500.

Last year I was invited by the owner of Boulder Creek to try his lefty acoustic bass. He is located in Morgan Hill, Ca. but those instruments are made in Asia. I actually really liked it (and he was ready to sell it for a crazy good price). Honestly it played and sounded really good. He mentioned that another lefty bassist came before to try it and I am pretty sure it was Gravesbass.

Back from my visit to upstate New York. Stopped at Adirondack on Friday but Dennis wasn't in. Got to play the Boulder Creek acoustic bass as well as a Dean. He only had a six string Warwick Alien boxed in the back but I didn't bother to have it brought out. Didn't see any Goldtone basses but he had a couple guitars. The Boulder Creek was hands down the better of the two soundwise and in quality of build. It sounded pretty sweet unamplified ,but would never have the volume to project a good bass tone in a band setting even without a drummer. That's pretty much why I could never see the purpose of an acoustic bass guitar. You would almost always have to amplify them. My advice is if you need an acoustic sound go for the real thing and get an upright. There's really no comparison.
