I swear this looks like the one up on the bay a few months ago. It was at a store in Santa Monica and I was gonna check it out as I was in Santa Monica that week. They pulled the ad before I got there.

VERY Nice bass but bad time to put it on the bay.

This has to be the same bass. I remember the grain in the headstock.

Is his statement true? "Matt"...?

"Fender never made left handed cases back then so it would have been put in a right handed case anyway"

I though Fender did make lefty cases back then.

I think the original case for my '76 is lefty. It's different than any other case I've owned.

Of course, what do I know? I just learned Fender doesn't make lefty MIM P-Basses. :D

I don't think that's true, about the case, graves. You know the 73 Jazz "au Naturel" that was talked about on here that I used to own? I had the OHSC for that one at one point and I didn't gig with the case, but I remember it being no different from the several G&G lefty cases I own for my Jazz Basses now.

My '72 J came with it's original case, but it fell apart and I ended up throwing it out (well over 20 years ago). Don't shoot me, but I was young and the vintage market wasn't what it is today. My '73 P has it's original case though. Neither bass has/had a lefty-specific case, though I'm not sure how the seller is defining that because technically there weren't righty-specific cases either, meaning the interior wasn't form fitted to accommodate the contours of the instrument so you could put either a lefty or righty inside. I'm not sure when Fender started producing form fitted interiors, but none of my lefty vintage Fenders (also including the later '75 and '77 Tele basses) that have their original cases have form fitted insides.

I always thought this 70's Fender case was "lefty" because it's different that my other cases. It's designed to have the tuners facing up when carrying the case by the handle. If the bass was righty, the tuners would be facing down and potentially bump into the bottom of the case. I dunno. Maybe I thought too much into it.

Oh, I see what you're saying now.

I just checked my '77 Tele case, and it's a righty. I never even noticed before, but I guess they did make true lefty cases. So I either don't have the original case(s) or Fender did whatever they felt like at any given moment. I suspect both are true.
