My new Thunderbird arrived yesterday. It's beautiful! And the body is definitely sleeker and smaller than I expected, which is very welcome. Jury's still out on what I'll do with it, though. It feels totally bizarre to play. No real neck dive to speak of, but where my Carvin just sits against my body, this sort of wants to fall forward. Makes it very strange for playing, unless you stand there still with the rock star stance of one leg forward to support it. I have a show on Friday and then I'll start taking the Thunderbird to rehearsal to jump into the deep end and see what I can do with it.

Is that a Gibson or another brand T-brid?

Gibson. The lighting was bad for the pic, so the headstock just looks black. But it's the standard Gibson headstock.

Biggest bass case ever.

It's a pretty big case. But they seem to fit in the Mono M80 bass case. As long as I can get used to playing it and can keep it stable, I will get one of those. Hardshell cases in NYC are impossible to deal with.

Right now I'm seeing what strap I can use that will keep it from moving, hence not tipping out. I ordered one of Mono's straps from Amazon so I can return it if I don't like it. I may get one of those Kepur straps. I had one many years ago but don't remember how comfortable they are. I just don't want to have to pay for all the shipping if I want to return it. I mention these because I don't want to use leather.

Cindi's (sp) wide Italia leather straps have held every bass I have used them with in place. Downside is they can be on the pricey side. But she uses some damn fine leather!

I'm having no problems with the T-Bird balancing sitting or standing. Hmmm...

Why no leather?

Vegetarian. As long as there are alternatives, I personally see no reason to use leather for a strap.

Cool. Although expensive, Mono seems to make some really nice ones, with no animal products. And those rubber ends seem pretty indestructible. Kepur has a cool video here.

Yeah, I have an SG and a 335 knockoff that have the strap button on the back. It's different- takes a little getting used to. There's always the option to relocate it to the upper bout- if you're into that sort of thing....

Thanks. I've been playing with it and also waiting for a better strap. The cotton one I use for my Carvin would be great I bet, but I don't want to take the strap locks off. The Dunlop ones are a PITA to get on and off.

It's really funny the reactions Thunderbirds get from people. Most common word is, "sexy." I have to agree.
