No guarantee that neck was original to that bass but who cares, a J neck profile on a P would be a good player especially if you could snag it low. Could have been ordered like that too. I went and looked at a red 72' maple board (seller claimed) P bass that had a J neck on it and super light. I passed because I thought it was a fake because it was so light. I became much more knowledgeable in the older Fenders since then because I walked away from a rare bass and some were actually light then. It was original.

The '73 pictured at the top of this site is a total featherweight.

Don't blame them for keeping the neck and selling off the body. That's just about the worst T-burst refinish I've ever seen.
