Well, it seems like a big move from them. Personally I was hoping for a white bass. Will these be American standard, or or MIM? I imagine they will keep black and sunburst as well right?

Good for them to offer something besides burst and black though.

I'm so confused, and maybe I'm just being naive or uninformed, but why can't they offer any color for a lefty bass? I can see machinery issues as far as making the bass, but once the body is ready for paint what does it matter what the shape/orientation of the body is?? :?:

According to the website, it's "Mystic Red" and "Mystic Blue."

True, but god forbid that they decide to go with a couple of classic Fender colors that people REALLY want like Surf Green, Lake Placid Blue, Coral Pink, Shoreline Gold, etc, etc, etc.

And I know beggars can't be choosers and I should be thankful for two extra colors this year, but this company is still not getting a single red cent from me until they offer maple boards.

Same here, if they were to make a white Jazz Bass with maple neck, I'd buy it in a minute. Those 2 new colors are not exciting at all but at least we get more options. This mystic red is the same as my 1996 P-Bass and the blue is hella tacky. Looks like those early 2000's Mexican basses. Why not daphne blue and fiesta red? So much hipper.

Come on Fender, where is the cool and the fun!

IMO, ditch the white pickguards and those could look a lot sharper. Case in point, I love the MIJ '62 in metallic blue:

I remember seeing Samiam years ago and their bass player had a P-bass that same color of blue as the MIJ P, but with an anodized gold guard on it. Looked killer.

James Brogan from Samiam used to manage a band I was in when I lived in Oakland... I completely forgot about that until I read your post.

The world just got smaller.

FWIW I still have the T-shirt with the Samiam logo on the front, and the backprint that states "Eat at Billy's.....good eats". Great band!

Great stuff!

The new colors are ok but I think a lot of us are really holding out for a maple fingerboard.

I bought a Fender Special Run (FSR) lefty Strat this year and had the choice of Two Tone Sunburst or Lake Placid Blue which was cool as they are not regularly available colors. I went for the brown with a maple board and paid less then a current American Standard. Why can't they offer an FSR lefty Jazz with a maple neck or just make the maple a regular option????? Ack!

They should have called those colors Lego Blue and Lego Red. Same for me, I will buy a Maple neck Jazz bass within minutes of it release. Especially a white one.

Same for me. I don't understand why they don't propose more options for us, especially maple fretboards...

I wonder how many orders for a maple board Fender would need to do a short run of them?

I have some anecdotal evidence FWIW. The owner of the high end bass store here in DC told me that Lakland would need 24 basses of the exact same spec to do a Skyline run. He told me that he was able to secure about 18 people who wanted a five string maple jazz type, but then they told him that all needed to be the same finish, and that is when it fell apart. He is not a Fender dealer, but figured that Fender would need 125 pieces of the same color to do a limited run.

He told me he would be open to making another run at it in the right circumstances.
