it has been confirmed to me by the gibson dealer in Australia
I think why its not widely known yet is because they havent made them yet so its pretty hard to sell something you havent got.
And they are left hand so really who cares anyway

Well you guys who jumped on your orders early might be making a very sound investment, with possibly the first lefties made you're getting a potentially very valuable instrument in the future.

As for me, I'm going to take the conservative approach and wait until these are officially released. I've learned from past experience that a 4-6 week turnaround can turn into 4-6 months, and I don't like having any of my money sitting in someone else's bank account when it could be sitting in mine. It happened to me twice with my EB Musicman Bongo and Larrivee D-03R orders - was told it would only be a few weeks but turned into months and months. In the case of the Bongo, I was told by Bass Central that they were definitely making lefties, only to find out from Ernie Ball that they weren't going to proceed until they had enough lefty orders first. So Bass Central happily took my deposit and sat on it indefinitely until more lefty orders came through. I'd be wary that Southpaw isn't simply tallying enough lefty pre-orders first before Gibson decides to do a run.

Hopefully Gibson/Southpaw will be true to their word and get these these manufactured and shipped quickly.

I'm sure SP is on the level too. But like leftybassati I find it odd that no one else is talking to their customers about these new left handed instruments. Plus SP have been posting photoshopped flipped images of right handed guitars almost as proof, which makes me nervous.

Maybe they have the inside scoop or potentially broke a supplier agreement by publishing the existence of the new lines.

It's also possible that Gibson USA may stay tight lipped until the NAMM show in January, if not later.

I'd be wary, they're posting "photoshopped flipped images of right handed guitars". ;)

You should ask them why they're charging $50 more for the lefty ones when Southpaw and L+M in Canada are both selling them for the same cost as righties.
If there is a lefty upcharge from Gibson for these I think it would be indicated in the cost of other retailers too.

I did get a chance to try out a friend's righty midtown... actually I like the long scale- what doesn't appeal so much to me is the "fake" semi hollowbody. As Gibson says, the chambered solid body gives you "sonic solidity, punch, sustain, and resistance to feedback previously unavailable in a semi-acoustic bass"-- so in effect they eliminated a lot of the resonant tonal characteristics of traditional semi-acoustic construction-- which is one of the main things I want from a semi-hollow style bass in the first place! I like the tone of my long scale Dillion DB335-004 with traditional semi-hollow body, separate volume and tone controls for each pickup (and an old original Gibson mudbucker from my parts bin swaped out in the neck position) much better.

I feel better now that I see the lefties on L&M. I made my deposit on a Les Paul Cherryburst this morning. Jim says mine is the first Cherryburst...Killer. Now to explain to the wife that I bought myself a $1600 Christmas present...

For those on Facebook you probably read that they are talking about releasing the Midtown Bass as well. That would be awesome for those of us who like hollow-body basses!

L&M: Long McQuade...Canada's Guitar Center.

I asked Jim about the Midtown this morning when I gave my deposit, and he said Gibson had said they would make them, but for some reason didn't release the SKUs with the other lefties and had yet to give authority to sell in lefty. He sent them an email as I was on the phone with him, hopefully we'll get good news soon....

I just put a deposit down on a Sunburst Midtown at L&M in Toronto. I expected it to be a bit of a hassle but it was in the computer system and took all of 5min. Now I wait. L&M couldn't give me any timeline....
