Based on other posts, the message from Gibson seems to be very inconsistent. I inquired with them and below was my response. Not sure what's going on but I'm going to call instead and see what goes.

Hello,

At this time there is no info regarding lefty product for 2013 – current basses may be found online at http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electri ... /Bass.aspx. Thank you for the inquiry.

Best regards,
Gibson Customer Service

I called them the other day. The service rep said that it would be another week or two before Lefty info would be released onto the web site... I'll try to order through the Toronto L & M dealer.

Please do, and if they don't have info in their system yet then email the head office through their website. They were already supposed to have the info in their system but it's yet to occur. :(

Hi guys,
The mixed messages from Gibson continues! I got this back from Gibson Europe today;

"Thank you for your interest in Gibson.

Information about new models coming out is considered as confidential information, used for marketing and sales reasons. I therefore suggest you to register to our newsletter, to be up-to-date as soon as new models are being released:

If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me again."

A bit of a neither confirm or denay reply!

Matt

I've definitely decided to wait for the 'official' release from Gibson before putting down a deposit. Just too weird for me that no one seems to know anything about this except Southpaw Guitars... :?:

You should definitely wait.

I just hope this isn't an elaborate hoax!

My heart is kind of set on a T-bird after 20 years of waiting!

Didn't you put a deposit down? I did too... I'm holding out for hope, knowing I can get the deposit back if this turns out to be all vaporware from Gibson.

You bet I did!
As a lefty in Texas I've been dealing with Jimmy@SP for DECADES, bought several instruments from him over the years. I know he's a good guy who knows his stuff, so if he says it I believe it. Everyone has always complained about Gibson's customer service/communication so it does strike me funny that when once again Gibson HQ seems to not know what's going on is when everyone is hanging on their every word. Others may have differing experiences and feel its "too weird" and they should hold off 'til they feel better about ordering.

Makes sense. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I absolutely agree that folks should only do what they're comfortable with! (And in my case, I'm comfortable with my deposit on the first SG faded bass. :) )

Yes, ain't it awesome.
I suspect you'll receive yours first as I ass-u-me it will take longer to make mine all shiny! ;)
But, once again, it's Gibson so who knows?

+1 to what Austin Lefty Bassist said. I just bought a bass from Jimmy, he is a stand up guy.

I have a question about the SG. I just played a righty one today, and is it just me, or does the SG have real neck dive issues? Toying with putting a deposit on one, but the neck dive put me off. The light weight was nice though.

My only experience with a similar bass was owning a righty EB-O back in the 80s, and with a decent(leather) strap I had no neck-dive. Obviously the point at which the strap attaches doesn't help matters.

Contrary to my daily attention to this thread, I'm really trying to forget about the SG bass since we don't know how long it could take. It might be months! So I'm really trying to forget about it so it's a wonderful surprise when it shows up! Know what I mean? :D

Indeed. 2012 has been my year of waiting. First a Carvin bass, then a Warmoth neck, and now a Gibson. Looks like 2012 is gonna stretch into 2013!

WoooHoooo back on after all this time!

I have been wanting an EB-3 for a very long time. It seems to be what they are calling the SG bass (I hope).
I'm very interested to see how this develops.

I certainly don't mean to imply that SP is somehow not on the up and up- just strikes me as odd that literally NO ONE else is talking about this. But like all of you, I've been waiting for this moment most of my life, so if it comes to fruition, I'll be in line for sure!~
