I've got one of those. They sound unlike any other bass (except for another Kramer aluminum.
). Heavy as hell but sustain for days and a bright metallic ring to it. Especially good played with a pick and for chordal work. One problem though: the aluminum neck was prone to tuning/intonation problems when exposed to temperature changes, not to mention an unpleasant frigid feel that took forever to warm up if you happened to make the mistake of storing the bass in the trunk of your car on the way to a gig in the winter.
Dave Hope of Kansas played one, and John Deacon of Queen is seen using one (or an earlier DMZ4000?) from time to time in their videos (Play the Game) and TV appearances (lip sync'ed), though I don't know if he ever recorded anything with it:
