Been thinking for a while now to buy a Epiphone SG bass.
Right handed but convert it to a lefty.

Sounds and looks great in my opinion.

If you're going for one of those, get the EB-3. It has a set neck rather than a bolt-on neck, and the bridge pickup adds up a lot to the versatility. I also think (but I'm not sure!) the EB-3 is a long-scale bass whereas the EB-0 has a 30" scale.

Allthough I would like to have a short scale bass.

But the ''small'' difference in price and specs makes it a hard choice.

If you get the Epi EB-3, be sure to buy a decent leather strap too.
Guitar-sized body + strap button at heel + long-scale neck = massive neck-dive.

I had one about 10 years ago, sounded good but not like "the real deal", neck-dive was too intense for me, had to sell it. Also, what appears to be the "Varitone" isn't, it's just the pickup switch.

Bought the EB-O about 8 years ago, still have it.

Sonically i prefer the EB-3, but that's just me

Gibsons and Epiphones have seen huge price drops here in Europe, especially since they went from distribution per country to a central distribution network for all of Europe at once (even though Fender did exactly the same and they only seem to be increasing their prices...). Many of the Epiphones you find used here were bought new before the price drops, for roughly double of what they cost now, so if the sellers don't want to make a huge loss you see them getting offered used at roughly the price of a new one

To bad because I want to sell my Mint Gibson SG Special guitar.
But there is an other lefty on the dutch Ebay (marpktplaats) selling a Gibson SG standard
for free. He dropped from 650 Euro, to 600 to 550 Euro. His Standard model is new twice
as expensive then my Special and he even did a pickup upgrade.
Because my SG is almost like new I want to have 650 (incl. bought hardcase) for it,
but aslong that guy is selling a way better model for free there is not much chance for me!
So If anyone wants a Gibson SG STANDARD guitar almost for free.........
Allthough I must say your G&L beats all guitars offered overthere jeroen!

Would be the best scenario to sell my Gibson guitar and buy this one.

These, or at least my Gibslon SG guitar feels really great. It is really thin and light with this open grain/pore wood.
Allthough I'm a Fender man, I really like the feel of this model Gibson. And the looks.

But maybee new to expensive to convert to a lefty to be a backup rock monster.
Should look for secondhand one indeed AzWhofan!

A Gibson price drop? Wow, that's unheard of since Henry J took over ..... Is that because they had separate, independant, individual distributors in each EU country then went to the one distributor? That's the only way I can see there being a price drop, wherby one distributor gets a better volume discount on price.

In general, what would you say the drop in percentage is compared to the old distribution model?

On USA-made Gibsons I'd say it's somewhere between 10 and 20% on most models. Somehow the SG benefits most, you can get a new SG Standard for 1000 euros and a Special (and I'm not talking about the Faded versions) for 850. If I'm not mistaken that's a drop of more than 30%.
And Gibson just keeps on introducing more affordable truly American-made instruments at the bottom of their range, at price levels we thought were impossible for any American-made guitar on the European market.

However, it's mostly Epiphone that has seen a tremendous pricedrop. Prices are almost half of what they used to be, and their basses now cost even less than half of what they used to cost.

ah, I think i get it now ... it's Gibson's way of flooding the market with cheaper product they know they can sell quickly to keep their cash flow churning thus allowing them to keep their doors open while they go through costly litigation regarding Lacey Act violations and try to stay solvent because their higher end models aren't really selling all that well in this cruddy economy but hey Henry J has to find a way to keep buying Harley motorcycles doesn't he I mean the Harley Davidson CEO is his best bud from school and you just can't let a friend donw while you are being a d!ck to your employees in a company that consistently ranks as one of the top ten worst companies to work for in America despite having an iconic product status and reputation as an American classic and besides all that where would Billy Gibbons and a bazillion other guitarists be withouth their Les Pauls?

Wow that Greco is really nice, but it cost more than a new (right handed) Sg bass, i meen the faded one.

About the pricedrop for the american models, it could also be that since the $ has been very low for quite a time they can lower the prices over here without any loss...just my 0,02€

But the seller probably doesn't want to sell it at his loss (shipping costs, import duties, possibly even 21% VAT in Belgium, the Gibson gigbag...).

Lately thinking about the epiphone eb-0. Discarding the eb-3 because I want a short scale.

The Tokai SGB63 looks killer but isn't cheap as the epiphone...
