Clicky-clicky!
Very pretty bass. But I'm sure you can get a brand new one at that price!

I used to own an original '77 J that looked exactly like that one, including the rosewood fretboard. Sharp looking bass and sounded great, but it was over 11lbs! Sold it a few years ago:

You can get a new one from Japan for about $1168 + $125 shipping + whatever 3rd party fee would be ($75?) = $1370 - $1400?):

Did anybody check out the over-the-top shielding and grounding that went into this bass?

Seems worthy of some interest.

Nice description and photos of the bass, but that's a $1000-bass on a good day.

Customs Shop Japan? Is there such a thing? I would guess there is a custom shop for Japanese artist and what-not, but this is just a top-of-the-line CIJ, not custom in any shape of form. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

It's like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black.

Well, he could always try to take the black all the way up to eleven...

If you look at the pics closely, the taniguchi bass appears to have the true 70's spacing and the one on ebay does not. I have never seen a MIJ CIJ with true 70's spacing.

"Spacing" in terms of what?

Spacing in terms of the bridge pickup being closer to the bridge on the 70s basses than on the 60s ones.

Hey, you're right! Neither have I, on a regular '75 RI. Cool!
