Listed on Arni's site today. Unusual to see 2 PUPs on an L1000, but supposedly factory original according to seller.

I emailed the seller to see if there are more pics. He's in Boston - not a member here? There are two switches on the bass. L1000 has only one switch (and only one pickup) and an L2000 has 3 switches - not sure what is going on but will try to find out :)

Heard back from seller, he is sending me more pics, will post them here. The bass came from Nashville and was well played he said by a session player - finish is worn off back of the neck. I think Dee Murray ended his career as a session player in Nashville and he played a 1K (I read in bassplayer mag it's displayed somewhere in Nashville), so this is the lefty Dee I guess :) . I posted this on the G&L bass forum, and one of the guys said it looks like the bridge pup was added - a little sloppy on the routing. So maybe 2nd switch is pickup selector switch, which would make it a passive L2K type. The seller says it sounds and plays great. he is looking for offers. I might make one but I will def post pics here if any of you are interested. I need another four string like . . . well you know.

It does look like the bridge pickup was added. The body wood is definitely not mahogany. It might be a nice sounding bass though. He hasn't got a price on it, he's looking for offers. I'm not going to make an offer, but if someone wants to, you can reach him on the leftybass site. Considering I've gotten 2 really nice old G&Ls for $650-750 range, this one can't be worth more than $500 imo, maybe less.

that looks like an Alder body, but I don't know if G&L used Alder on thier bodies. all I remember from the early ones (pre-nipple era) are Hog and (very heavy) Ash

I would suspect that's not a factory install on the bridge pickup. if it is, then G&L had a day in time when they sunk lower in QA than a 70's Fender neck pocket. makes no sense that the pocket would be sloppy like that if it was factory, since they'd simply use their pin router template with the L2K routing

seems there would be some candy to back up the factory bridge install. more believable is that some guitar shop couldn't move this, so they had their tech add the pickup to make the unit more attractive to lefty buyers. (kinda like 'factory original' a/c in a '65 Mustang)

all the best,

R

I kinda like it. I've never played a G&L.

Hmm...for the right price I would absolutely go for that bass.
