As I keep looking for a new bass to pick up, I've fallen completely, madly in love with the Rickenbacker bass.
Vintage, new, between the 4001 & 4003 I'm desparate in searching for the pricey piece.

I seem to hit a few snags though.

1) Are they still making them? If so, when & where can I find them?
I've read somewhere they were backlogged for a while. Even put out a few earlier this year and that was it.
I've been frequenting the 'Southpaw spotted section' as well as eBay in general in case I come across any on there with no luck.
I've only caught glimpses of some lefties out there & then the paint job was not to my liking (which I feel I may have to give up due to their rarity).

So I ask #2:
How can I find one in Azureglo or Midnight blue?
I really took a liking to those shades of blue. Period. Nothing else looked exciting on those models.
The only ones I've even come across left handed have been the Mapleglo, Fireglo, and Jetglo.

And lastly, #3: (And not as important)
Although, I'd imagine it would devalue & possibly commit sin by repainting a Mapleglo/natural finish, how could I go about changing the color?

I did email one of the departments over at Rickenbacker with no response for nearly 2 weeks now.
Seems as an interested lefthanded buyer, they don't care what I think. Or they must have a million emails to sort through.
But I refuse to give up hope!

Any ideas or news? And please, if you do happen to see one, pass the info a long. I'll forever be in your debt.
Thanks.

There are many threads on the site dealing with the Ric lefty issue.

In a nutshell, you are sh!t out of luck my friend. Ric has not made lefty anything in 3 (4?) years and has no stated plans to start anytime in the near - or distant - future.

You may be able to find a lefty AzureGlo 4003 somewhere. I do remember seeing them a few years back (4 string and/or fretless). But if you do find one be prepared to act quickly and to pay whatever the seller may want for it. Cause it ain't gonna be cheap! ;)

Happy hunting!

Just saw it and I think I just crapped myself in sheer excitement.

Holy smokes! Not only is the color incredibly rare (I'd never seen a blue Rick bass before ever), but the BIN price is actually on the low side considering the astronomical prices these things command now. Of course, the low end of astronomical is still expensive. But if you really want something...

I'm not so sure about the "ORIGINAL EVERYTHING!" statement. Just a quick glance shows it's missing the mute adjustment screws, the pickup guard; and the "bridge" pickup has been replaced with a Jazz bass pickup.

Gotta say, given recent pricing on ebay for rics, that actually looks reasonable with a little elbow grease (or a good tech) to restore the original pickup at least.

One or perhaps even two have appeared on Ebay during the last couple of years. Wasn't that hacked up Rickenbacker from last year blue as well?

Midnite Blue was (and i think still is) pretty much the standard 4th color option available from Ric, after JG, MG, FG. Tho never really an overly popular choice for basses, it's faily popular for 6/12 string guitars.

Surprised more people don't like how sleek it looks. I actually prefer the Azureglo.
That lighter blue makes a difference, looks brighter IMO.

In honesty, I think what turned me onto that color was the one show I saw as a kid.
One of the main characters wields (no better way to put it) a blue 4001.

And the second was that blue Hofner someone posted here on the site.
Lost track of it, but definitely a pretty piece. Same color too. Drooled over that a few times.

Everything should come in Azureglo, maybe Midnight blue.

Had a crazy week, death in the family, and unfortunately it slipped through my fingers.
Put in a bid, but somebody bought it outright.
So, I'm still looking.

I imagine it'll be a while, but if anyone catches wind of another I'd appreciate it.

Well, better put my soul up on the bay so I can, maybe, pay for half of it.

Or start counting those pennies I have in a shoebox in my room.

Send him a message and tell him what you're willing to pay, you never know, you might be able to negotiate yourself a good deal.

Too bad about the 'ding'. IMO that put's the value under $2k in these inflated-lefty-Ric-prices market.

Really? The first one that sold for $2500 had way more wear & tear than this one.

Think that one was incredibly overcharged then?

Overpriced? IMO, yes. But the market dictates what the selling price will be I suppose. Hey as my momma used to say "you don't ask, you don't get".

I just recently had a righty midnight blue 4003 in my possession, which I bought on closeout from Musicians Friend for $1150 and flipped on ebay. The finish was absolutely beautiful. Anyone know how Azureglo differs from midnight blue though? Looking at Azureglo pix online, it would appear it was a lighter shade of blue than the midnight.
