I know there is a facebook group. I just recently sent in a request and so far, I haven't heard anything.

Do you guys need another mod for something like that?
I'm on it every now and again, probably more than I should.
So I don't mind pitching it and helping run it.

Either way, can somebody accept my request already? XD.

Hello, and thanks for your interest.

I am the administrator of the Facebook Group. I promise you I am not ignoring your request to join, nor am I ignoring the dozen or so requests I've had from others over the past 2 weeks. Here's the problem:

Facebook, in their infinite wisdom, has decided to archive the group, apparently because we don't "qualify" for enough activity! Who decided this? Beats me, but I guess we all weren't posting enough BS about what we had for lunch or when we took our last crap. They never gave me the option of upgrading to their new format, and the group has been in archive limbo for months now pending some eventual archiving. Long story short: They've frozen me out of my own group and I have no administrative privileges to approve anyone's requests to join! :x Real brilliant, Facebook, for a site that supposedly perpetuates socialization and community they burn people who aren't logging on every minute of the day. Of course, if I could just get in touch with someone in tech support to correct the problem I would, but Facebook has NO support!!! You simply can't get in touch with them. And that's just the way they like it, apparently.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears. I'd like to get it back up and running ASAP but I suspect this indefinite wait for archiving will be just that..indefinite.

well can you create another group if the first one was leftybassist, make it lefty_bassist or something.
once it is back online I guess we should BS daily on it about whatever huh, just like the off topic bass topics at UG or HarmonyCentral.
stupid fools post anything in a specific thread and I once, and only once complained, and their answer was "If you don't like it", skip over it, we give our users free reign in threads as long as it does not violate our TOS.

Okay, amazingly in Facebook's vast sea of discombobulated info I managed to find this bit of info regarding ways around the archiving, courtesy of a user on the chat forum:

We have recently found a way to successfuly UPGRADE Groups . . . Add an EVENT TAB if you don't have one, then Create an "Event" and send to all members asking people to post lots of comments on the Group. That has worked in several cases in the last week, in just creating the Event.

Also IMPORTANT - You need to temporarily change your language to see the Upgrade notice, so click drop-down arrow next to Home > Account settings > Language > "Edit" . . and change the setting to English (US) . . . if it's not already set to that.

When the UPGRADE is done, just change the Language to what it was before.

You also need to make DISCUSSIONS (create the tab if you don't have it)
Make at least FOUR discussions, with at least FIVE replies to each. It can be anything in the message box, even just a "."

You also need to continually post on the Group WALL, with messages asking your members to help with the UPGRADE. The UPGRADE notice doesn't always happen right away, especially if your Group has been inactive, so you may have to keep working on it.

I'm going to attempt this over the next week, but it looks like I'll definitely need everyone's help to keep the site active. It certainly doesn't sit well with me that we have to jump through these kinds of hoops or fulfill a certain "gab quota" just to have a discussion group. The Facebook site was always meant to be an extension of this site anyway, and I personally feel that this site right here has been the best source for info and discussion.

eh, I'll help out to get the FB page running again, but don't count on me for much activity after that. I'm debating weather or not to just quit using FB alltogether. I just hate having my 'privacy' mined by the universe.

Well, my apologies if I've incited your rage against that new social media.
Always seemed like a double-edged sword to me anyway.
I do hate the fact it is easy target for data mining.
Scary fact is knowing it has all my family (but me) and my friends' information readily available.
Too bad there aren't many defenses against it other than privacy settings.

Regardless, I know I'm new around here anyway.
It's hard to figure out where all fun new stuff is to read.
I'm still going through different pages for good information.

Never knew we had an FB page.... but I'm thinking if there was no activity, why bother? This forum keeps us all updated enough about ourselves, doesn't it? LB is good enough for me....

I tend to agree, and I think I initially got sucked into the whole popularity contest of Facebook when I first proposed the idea to Andrew. After all, EVERYONE'S on Facebook. We had over 75 members last I checked. But it definitely wasn't an active group, as 99% of the posts were mine. I equate it to the height of Myspace's popularity where people were signing up as many "friends" as they could just to add some fabricated notches in their belts. So I think a few people who joined just like having a few dozen groups they can be a part of. It became apparent after a while that I would have to step up and be some sort of daily source of lefty info to keep it running, and frankly, there's only so much I can say. Those groups that do seem to thrive either have a steady community of active participants or a daily stream of bullshit to keep them in your minds. If this were my business, I'd definitely be more on top of it, but my intention was to simply expand the outlets for lefty discussion.

Maybe I'll start a Twitter page for us so I can keep you all updated by the hour regarding my life status instead. I'm getting a haircut today at 11am. Notice I didn't say, "hair styling". That should tell you a lot about me. ;)

Granted I haven't been following a lot of threads here, I am impressed you guys are pretty on top of this one. (It is just a BS question after all.)

Maybe I can ask a few more?

I saw it last second, where & when was Lefty Day?
Is it the same day every year?

I'm saving another question for a new thread too...

On the FB thing, you have to realize the reason they archive activity is because they are ultimately paid for observing people's behaviors and then providing that propritary information to corporate clients who use it to create advertising campaigns. It is not profitable for them to have a group that does not produce marketable or market worthy data. In some ways, I think I take it as another slight by humanity for being born left handed.

Anyhow, do the mods/admins have the ability to see where guests are coming from? In all fairness, we know that Rodent visits with us and has a keen sense of the lefty market, but does the site show IP address visits from other builders' domains such as Fender, Musicman, Ibanez, etc? Just curious as to how these companies do market research for what lefties wnat, if they do any at all. Appears to me that they simply take one or two model that sell well righty and offer them left handed without much in the way of focus group. That's the only explanation I have for the Squire Vintage Modified Sunburst with Rosewood coming to market.

Not that it's any of my business, but I will ask why we even need an FB/Twitter/social media page at all. Seems this old-fashioned board is doing just fine :) :geek:
