I really love these Hot-Rod Precisions. They still seem like a real bargain on the used Fender market and they also made lots of lefties for whatever reason.

And even in more than just two colours!
Besides black and 3-colour sunburst there were a natural finish, sunset orange transparent, and white blonde. But the sunburst does seem to be the most common, by far.

Correction: it's Olympic White, not White Blonde.

Actually, Olympic White was never available for lefties.

There was a transparent ash w/ a red tortoise guard that was available, though.

As were the sunbust and the sunset orange transparent one. And I think I've seen black ones too. Was white the only exception then?

You can get rid of that crud very easy... and make it look new again. Solvents, Steel Wool and Lemon Oil/Fingerboard Oils are your friend.

This is the second time around for this bass. First time the guy couldn't pay. I got a second chance on it since I was second-highest bidder. It just looks uncared for...a bit of a gamble, could be great once you scrape the gunk off the fretboard and fix it up a bit. Or the truss rod could be maxed and you're stuck. Happened to me before....

.

that's exactly the pix I was looking for ! My main fender is this feder hotrod PJ, highly customised (hepcat pickups, new bridge, neck custom shaped to my specs), but the former owner took the sunburst off and let it natural, with a mat and awful vernish. I was thinking to have it paint, that's what I was looking for ! I may add a matched headstock, with a slight black stripes, like 80's fender.
