People have been asking about live ones so here you go.

This one is my band Fatso. Covering Manic Depression.

This clip is my band The Fiddleworms with an old song of ours. This one features the bass a little better... but please forgive the ending

Are you feeling cramped up at all (your arms & elbows) while playing the u-bass

No it's not cramped feeling at all. Just trying to get used to the scale size, so flubs happen still. Overall pretty comfy and a light touch does it, especially on the G string.

it's got a sonic presence that's around 75% upgright and 25% electric with rounds. very tasty

p.s. the Fiddleworms gig would have driven me nuts. not only are you guys jammed against the wall, but the aisle is right at your toes. do your mic stands or drums get knocked around a lot there? seems like one careless shouldbag could easily take a mic or cymbol stand to the floor, and one careless backwards step could jam a mic into your teeth. ugh!

Sweet vids!!

The "all-original" high-energy blues band I'm in plays lots of places like that... pretty cramped, and it blows being "face-to-face" with the crowd, but... a gig's a gig.

Anyway...

Not sure if you guys know, but Bakithi Kumalo has been playing a Ubass all over TV the last few months with Paul Simon.

Here's a vid:

First of all, I didn't know that after retirement Willie Mays had learned how to play guitar! ( The black guitar player sure looks like him!) Second, I think Bikithi played all of ten notes on that entire song, and used the body as a drum. Would certainly like to hear it played in songs featuring walking bass, or latin lines, blue grass etc. Still, a beautiful song in it's sparse-ness.

As I get older I've been favoring a "less-is-more" approach to gigging with regards to the amount of crap I need to haul to and from a gig. ( I only wish the guitarist in my cover band would take heed, considering the guy showed up to our 100 person capacity gig last week with 7 guitars, one Marshall 4 x 12 cabinet with a second 2x12 cabinet, floor board, etc; Then he expects ME to help him load/unload his $#!t with him!). So the idea of showing up with nothing but a U-Bass, a DI, and perhaps a small monitor REALLY appeals to me.
