Scam? Sometimes I think people are hoping that the cheap price will distract the buyer from the small details, and they will make the real money on the backend. Even living in Hawaii, standard USPS ground shipping is only about $50.

Sent this to the seller just to see what the reply might be, although I don't expect to see one...

"Unless you're in a foreign country, I can't see why you feel $200 is a fair amount for shipping your bass. On average, a typical ground fee in the Continental U.S. is about $35-$50. Plus, your bass only costs on average $279 brand new - why would anyone buy your bass, and then have to incur an additional $200 on top of your price, for a total of $479?

You might want to re-think your selling price, and shipping fee, if you want to have any chance of selling this bass on eBay...."

It will be interesting to see if I get a reply.... if I do, I'll post it up.

I'm in Japan & I've bought several basses off eBay & also privately in the US, mostly the east coast & USPS cost $70~100, depending on the seller & weight/size I guess. I lodged a complaint with eBay after some clown quoted $150 on the freight cost of a bass I would've bought but wouldn't come down to the real postage cost after I politely requested he do so. Needless to say, I didn't bid & told him he was a rip off. Ebay of course won't do anything, although I know it's hard to police it logistically. I just hate these clowns who think they're somehow so clever & that we don't know we're getting it up the sphincter via their overblown freight charges. Sorry, just saw Robin Hood so I'm on a crusade!! ;)

:D

That's a great response. Clearly he's trying to scam more $$ from shipping and has now announced himself as a douchbag. Thanks for taking care of this clown for us fivebass52.

Canada post is more expensive than US post, but not that expensive by far.

By "burnt dealing with a Canuk" do you mean you didn't research the shipping rate before making the deal, or did you get scammed?

You can report it to ebay for excessive shipping. I did. Wonder if it'll matter. :?

Paid for bass in august no bass arrived. Seller no longer has a eBay account
No replies from emails. eBay and paypal only deal in disputes on a 45 day period

Vox phantom. Canada. He quoted $400US for shipping then to get payment
He promise to send it through the US. After I paid he emailed that he had to send it with
Canada post. Then silence. A lesson learnt.

Happy New Year guys.

Obviously a teenager or early twenties kid. The spelling and syntax says it all. And you're all right, clearly this person was more offended by me "calling his bluff" rather than coming up with a legitimate reason for his outlandish shipping fee. I'm so very tempted to reply with something like "snappy cumbak dude youve hert me deeply an im on the verge of sueyside". But it's the New Year, and I'm trying be be a more compassionate guy.

Hope you're all having a restful day this Jan 1, 2011.

I guess he can afford to eat the $2.00 or so for insurance, although I'm SURE he's going to use up all of that $200 in packing materials!

The cost really depends on the shipping company. Check first other options before purchasing something. If it would be shipped locally, then it would cost you less.

I looked at the seller's hostory, and he recently sold a cell phone and charged $25 shipping.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &viewitem=

He received positive feedback, so I'm assuming people just see the fee and assume it's correct and pay it, no questions asked.

Crazy.

speculate all you guys want --- well here's the REAL DEAL with outrageous ship charges:

I sell you a item for 10dollars that is worth 10thousand, I make the shipping 9,990.

this way ebay only can collect on the FVFee of 10dollars, and I only get stuck paying the percentage of the paypal fee to transfer 10grand into that account and not double-dipped from ebay on 10grand AND paypal on 10grand. THAT is why ebay wants people to report excessive shipping, trying to cheat ebay out of their cut and for no other reason.

as far as the douche replying like an asshole, shit guys, I saved PLENTY of funny pm's I have got from retards on ebay, I should start a topic and post some of these funny ass replies.

No one bought this bass, and I don't see any new listings for it. Glad to see no one fell for his "scam"....
