Thanks, Basshappi. The jury is still out about the 55-94. I'm waiting for a new strap I just ordered to make sure I can deal wth the weight. I just re-weighed all my basses, and they are all indeed pretty light. My main Jazz is just 8.6 lb, and my P-Bass is 8.3 lb. My fretless Yamaha is 8.0 lb. So my Carvin B5 (which was so comfortable) must have been 8.2 lb or so. The Lakie is 9.1.

Talking about the Kinal, I remember that bass well. It was quite a deal for the quality, I think around $2200 or so. It had a very boutiquey feel to it, like you could see a human shaped the whole thing. . . very hand-made (in a good way). The reason I sent it back is because I could not get the action low at all. Even with the neck straight and the saddled bottomed out, the action was still way too high, at least for me. i'm sure it could had been fixed with some advance setup, like a shim, but I just didn't want to deal with that.

Hi Andrew, that bass has quite a story. I ordered it I THINK around 2001 or 2002.

Aha! Yes, I remember that bass, it was built when I was working for Kinal. Small world. :)

So literally a half of a pound makes that much difference to you?

That's crazy... I'm not implying anything by asking that... I just feel bad, I guess. I just couldn't imagine if weight was that much of an issue for me. It would be horrible.

It's hard enough for us lefties to find kick-ass basses as it is... to have to limit that search to basses 8.6 lbs and under just adds insult to injury.

;) How's she doing? Is she your main bass?

Addison, yeah, man, it seems that 9 lb is the limit of my shoulder. It's not so much about 0.5 lb, it's about the extra 8.5 lb before that! At 9 lb I start feeling numbness in my arm, then my shoulder bothers, and then about an hour into having the bass on I start feeling it in my lower back.

I've been playing the 55-94 non-stop, and so far the love affair's still on. It would be really hard to let it go. I have a long gig tomorrow. I'm even thinking on ordering one that's lightweight. I just don't want to spend $1200 extra (for a Classic) in comparison to what I paid for this one. . .

Talking about Lakies, here's my former Glaub, which was Andrew's original bass, then I bought, then a sold it to him!

My old 55-94 was 8.25 lbs exactly... you can see it here: http://www.thelowend.net/gallery/viewtopic.php?t=4975

The person who got it from The Low End tried selling it on eBay not long after at a sizable markup, but... if you're interested in it, maybe The Low End can get you in touch with that person to see if you could work something out.

It was my main bass for a few years and I'll always have an affection for it, but my Regenerate P has become my #1 these days.

it's easily as nice as the Lakland, but has a few features I prefer and the Nordy P pickup in it sounds real mean. :)

I'll always appreciate you selling the Lakland back to me though.
