Was trying to explain to my guitar player in my band I want to do a more "Groove" oriented jam...He is a good dude but as white as a white dude can get so if you are 40 or over you might have as fond a memory of this as I do. It was when I first felt "the groove" I laid this on him and it was a done deal. Ofcourse in my 'day' (as I'm only 25 ) it was re-runs, but I always noticed that the music on the background had a certain level of difficulty to it. YTvid made me smile!

Hell yeah! Not only do I remember it, but I get to watch it at least twice a week, since I picked up the "Sesame Street Old School" DVD collection for my kids (and me) to watch and the Pinball Groove is on there. My kids love the old SS shows, back when there was a lot of variety in them (Muppets, cartoons, claymation, ACTORS, etc). The Muppets had much more personality and were more crudely rendered (In the original first couple of episodes, Oscar the Grouch is orange!). You also hear a LOT of cool, free form, jazzy avant garde stuff as background music in the short animation pieces. This is one of my favorites:

IMO, it really jumped the shark once they made Elmo the focal point of every show. (Which started almost 30 years ago. ).

what IS scary about watching those old clips is once I see them, I remember them completely like it was last month

Ah, the good old days. Plopped in front of the TV on a Saturday morning with my bowl of Froot Loops in hand watching an endless parade of shows. No cable, DVD, or On Demand back then, just a handful of channels. The one thing I found interesting watching some of that stuff recently was just how good a lot of the bubblegum pop songs were. (I've seriously considered starting a band that plays nothing but this stuff). I made a playlist on my iPod of songs from the Banana Splits, Lancelot Link (anybody remember that?), and the Groovie Goolies. This actually was a hit song back in the 70's:

as well as the old 70's bubblegum music like the defranco family, the partridge family, the osmond family, the sweet, garry wright ...again THAT list is endless of one-hit-wonders and i have redone plenty of them.

fortunatly I play by ear, and as long as I can hear it in those old videos, I can usually pick it out and jam it..don't matter how hard or easy, to me it's all about can I hear it, or not

I love this and love bubblegum! My side project band in Brooklyn is a cover band that does nothing but bubblegum songs from around the world 1968-78.

Yo Addison!!! I was trying to find the RRRrrrr thing man that's awesome! To me now "The Price is Right" is now "The Bass is Right" the fill on the third one is killing it.

We used to open our set with the Bat Man theme song for a while then it got old and then we had this like slightly slow in the head guy come up and he would "Rap" the theme of Gilligan's Island over one of our tunes. TV has had such a huge impact on my tiny brain!

Also, you are right about the game show thing. Incidental music was just really good in the 70s. I know he's been mentioned somewhere on this board before but it's definitely worth checking out the work bassist Herbie Flowers did with organist Alan Hawkshaw in the UK for generic TV backing tracks. They are so soulful/funky & catchy! This has got to be the most famous:

One of the reasons IMHO why all these sound so good today is that they were made by full bands in the studio and since the late 80s we've grown accustomed to hear more and more sequenced stuff for backing tracks on TV.
