I got this last Sunday (and please excuse me for the poor picture quality, it was taken with my phone):

Image

It's a 1970s Fender Bassman 50 with 2x15 cab. Loud enough for club gigs, and it sounds amazing both for guitar and bass! I got a hell of a deal (I paid 450 euros for the set, including a cover for the cab and a flightcase for the head) because its previous owner passed away recently and the family wants all his stuff (a long and impressive list of amazing gear) gone fast.

The tone is either big and thumpy, or bright and gnarly. I can get a very agressive growl out of it, but also a deep clean tone with a tiny edge. It's also very dynamic, especially with the two channels bridged. It sounds especially amazing with my Ibanez Musicians and my Rickenbacker. Can't wait to take it on stage!

Awesome buy Jeroen! Your description sounds accurate... not much of a modern sound, and slap/poppin' is not going to sound clear through this, but the old-tone is going to be there for ya!

I had almost the same rig but the amp was a 100. Loved it.

Congrats! Great amp and cab.

My favorite amp was my Bassman 100 head that I played through an Acoustic 2x15 cab.
The amp was stolen and I have always missed it because the sound was awesome.
The only downside was that it was not loud enough to compete in the rock bands I was in back then.

Nowadays with better PA support and quieter stage volume requirements it would do just fine. I have been looking at them and maybe someday I'll get a replacement....after all I still have the cabinet. :D

Jeroen, nice score!

Can you take a peek in at the label in the head shell and tell us what circuit it is?

Thanks!
This should be the AC568 circuit, but I'll check when I get the chance (it's in our rehearsal room, I don't have it at home).
