I am trying to create a special color and hope someone here can help. You know when you look at a crow or a raven and they are jetblack but when the light hits them right there is a blue sheen to them... Well that is the color i want to recreate. I thought maybe a base of jet black then overlay a translucent royal blue. So when you look straight at it you see black until the light hits it at the right angle then the blue is highlighted. Does anyone here have any ideas on this? I'm not after any metal flake just solid colors.

To get the end result you want you need to put a few coats of a blue peal flip flop over a black base. Then a final clear coat for protection and depth. Possibly a purple peal flip flop might give a purple and blueish sheen. Not sure which would work best. If the pearl coloring isn't dark enough then a translucent royal blue on top to darken the color to taste. You need the pearl flip flop to get the change from different angles that you're looking for. Just the translucent royal blue on top of the black will not produce a dramatic effect. It will look like a dark candy blue finish not much variation from different angles.

You're more than welcome! I used to do custom paint and pin striping on hot rods and motorcycles. Good luck with the project! Keep us posted and hopefully we'll see some pictures when it's done!

Another option - covering the body with lots of raven feathers.

Hey guys well here is my Rick in it's current state :o :o :o .....It still needs to have the small horn side taken off and rejoined as it's starting to part at the joint.

I think i found the perfect paint for that special color I'm looking for...Seems Fender already have the color I think it's called black rock. My luthier has some and is preparing a swatch for me to check it out.

Wow. It occurs to me I've never seen a Ric in that state. Look forward to seeing the final product.
