Post subject:	Good Lefty P/J basses?
I've noticed that neither fender nor squire, and it seems not too many other companies that make PJ basses do them in lefty. I'm wondering who, if anyone, does a decent left handed PJ, and / or which cheap PJ models that come in lefty are good for upgrading. Any thoughts?

Starting at the low end, there's a Hohner for sale right here for $175: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6509 Might be gone already, though. There are Squier P/J's (Fender calls them "Precision Bass Specials") that come up from time to time. Usually for $200-300. I have one. It actually feels really nice. I'm still trying to find pickups that I like in it, but that was the whole purpose of it. I'll probably end up with a set of pickups that alone cost double what I paid for the wood. Ibanez has a few entry-level P/Js, but I don't know anything about them. The Schecter Model-Ts are supposed to be great. The new version, the Model T Session, has active electronics, so maybe not what you're looking for, but I love the way it looks. I offered the seller $500 in Dec and he turned me down, but no one is biting at $525. If you're looking to spend a little more, G&L makes the SB-2. I bought it as an office/travel bass. But I don't travel much, and I started keeping my acoustic at the office instead. I have a set of La Bella flats on there and believe me you don't lose anything by getting rid of the head and body. It's still 34" scale and sounds like a P with flats should. Tim, Great job gathering all of that information. If I had known Hohner made the B2B in lefty when I bought my B2A, I would have been all over it. Hanz, I love the B2 series. Serious bang for you buck.

I have a ton of basses, I just purchased a Dan Lakin lefty, I love this bass it is amazing. If your not aware Dan is one of the founders of Lakland basses and after a 3 year non compete he started his line of basses. These are high end basses but you will see they have a good price. Sometimes it's a matter of perspective, I feel the $900 Lakin bass plays and sounds like a $2K bass. If you can get your hands on a used Fender Hot Rod (sometimes also called "Hot Rodded") P/J, you'll be happy you did. I can only think of one board member who had mixed things to say about them... but reviews are mostly positive around here and the one I had was absolutely killer. They're USA made, come in some interesting colors and most of them came with a G&G deluxe hard case. Here's one... priced pretty high, but it's ballpark. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-precisio ... I'm likely the guy who wasn't a fan of the Hot Rod P or the Model T. You're led to believe that this PUP combo would be the pan ultimate, offering the best of both worlds, and while I liked the PUPss soloed I never dug the sound when blending the two. (compared to a basic Jazz, for example, which sounds far better to my ears with two J PUPs blended). Maybe had I wired them in series I might have preferred them. IMO, the PJ PUP combo works best on a bass with a reverse P setup, i.e. Spector Euro, Warwick Streamer, or Guild Pilot. Other PJ lefty options out there are SX, Yamaha BB (if you can find one), and Pedulla

Now that I own a proper jazz bass, there's almost nothing jazz like in any P/J pickup set I've tried. I think of them more as a P with an extra tone shaper. I've found a couple of nice tones with the volumes set at 7:10, 10:7, and 5:5 depending on the pickups. Even then I had to experiment with relative pickup height to compensate for the much weaker signal of the J. But I'm curious about an active blend that would keep the coils from loading each other.

Holy crap! I can't believe I forgot to mention the Fender Aerodyne Jazz basses! They are some of the sweetest looking basses I have ever seen! I love the carved top, and the colors offered are gorgeous!
