This popped up on the Adirondack Guitar website so I took a drive up the Northway and bought it:

I have a 1996 SB-1 also. The new one is super bright and zingy with the tone up, but calms down quite a bit when the tone is rolled off. Of course the strings are brand new so that contributes to that. The build sheet says it has the clear satin neck finish but I believe it is actually light tint satin - I have another G&L with that neck finish and it looks the same. Plus it's my only bass w a tort pg so that gives it the mojo ;)

Here's a song I recorded with it, tone at 0:

This is a song I did the '96 SB-1 I think tone was up - pretty dead round wounds on it:

I def dig the new one, as the strings settle in I will be interested how it compares to my '96 SB-1

Rocket Music has a similar SB-2:

Someday.... But right now I have an SB-1 pickup in my Squier. Doesn't quite sound like those samples, though :)

This is the new one no vocals on this track so you can hear the bass better - recorded in Garageband, clean amp, tone at 0:
