Didn't know about this. Anyone know if lefties are available? http://dlakinbasses.com/

Yup, this has been at discussion at Talkbass for quite a few months. Be it that they are Korean parts, I'm guessing that like any other of those factories they would need a sizable order to build lefties -- say 10 or 20. . . And by experience, I've never seen any of these group build get any traction.

About the bass themselves: meh. I really don't know what they bring to the table, other than that odd-looking headstock and some cool colors. Even us as lefties have plenty of good options for Js and Ps, such as Carvin, Fender, G&L and Warmoth.

I have to say, if Dan would have started a US-build operation, I'd be more excited. The 1999 Lakland 55-94 I had was one of the best basses I have ever played and the quality was as good as any (I let it go because I can't deal with full string spacing and 35" scale). But about two years ago I tried a recent (2012) 55-94, obviously built under new management, and it was not as perfect. It was lacking precision, and the neck would have had to be shimmed to get low action. Not to say that US Lakland is now lower quality, but I just thought that the older 55-94 was oh-just-so-perfect overall.

They're going to be producing lefties. Whether they're made to order, batch ordered, or produced first then sold, I do not now.

There are a couple pics of lefty P/J's in this thread:

Granted, the J pickup is admittedley Photoshopped into the pics, but the rest looks legit.

Good to know. Thanks for the info.

Ha! Well, good news. That Glaub Custom model (P-Bass) in CAR with blocks looks pretty sharp. . .

I spoke by phone with Dan Lakin today and he confirmed all models are available lefty with NO UPCHARGE. He said he typically places orders about every 3 months and will be ordering in the next week or two, so if anyone is interested in a lefty he would include that in this months order. Deposit is 50% down, balance due when shipped. I'm contemplating a Glaub model.

Yes that includes the Joe Osborn and Rick Rosas Jazz style basses and no 5 strings. I didn't ask if he has plans for 5'rs in the future. You can call him direct, he's pretty accessible. The P style Bob Glaub model can also be ordered with a 1 1/2'" nut width.
