I used to own one. Cool aesthetics but one of the worst sounding basses I've ever played. That "mystery" PUP in the bridge made for a wonderfully plastic "ping" sound. The later models with the actual PUP are much better sounding. |

I don't really know the value of these basses, but $3200, and $4999 seems a bit too much..... |

I've never played one but like everything else in life the value is based on supply and demand. They didn't make a whole lot of these in the sixties and probably less have survived in original condition. The very rare lefty in the UK sold for around $2900. a couple months ago. Here's a pic of Rick Danko who famously played a fretless with The Band and coaxed some sweet sounds from it. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=ric ... tedIndex=1 |

First bass guitar I ever played on was an AEB-1 with the mystery pickup. Plugged into a Peavey MK I with an SP 1 PA speaker, that bass could make a roar in a large church!!!!! I still like them, but my desire to own another is tempered with my preference for old BC Riches these days. |
