Basically, this lefty bass had been on CL for a while - no takers.
This guy bought the bass and cleaned it up... amazing results.

Wow, was the original finish still underneath that poor flamejob?
Looks amazing. I love that finish, I like it better than the more common sunburst. They're awesome basses, I love mine.

Yeah, I thought the same thing... the body honestly looks like it could be as many as 4 or 5 pieces.

ouch, i think it looks terrible with the natural finish, white/cream pickups and maple neck

That's what it looked like when it left the factory in 1979-1981 though ;)
Could be a lot worse: Ibanez also did some series of Roadsters with laminated mahogany bodies with a swirl paint to emulate the look of ash. They look awful in my opinion, whereas I love the dark transparent red/brown finish on the one above.
