Self explanatory. If you own or have owned one of these fantastic basses comment with pics and how you got yours. Just curious. My main bass is my 78 BC Rich USA mockingbird bass (shorthorn) I bought this bass from pjmuck about a month or two ago and have been in love with it ever since. It's simply the best bass I've ever used. Koa wood, maple stringers, neckthru, badass bridge. Deluxe partial active electronics package. 2 bartolini precision pickups I will soon be replacing with the original dimarzios. I will be selling the Bart's if anyone wants them. Amazing bass with endless tonal varieties and tones... Incredible. Post yours too! |

This may end up being a party of 2, George, as I'm not sure there are many lefty BC Rich owners here. (Though I have a faint recollection that Carmine has a rare Gunslinger bass). Yes, the Rico period BC Richs are very rare, and I concur with you on the quality. These are high end, hand made boutique instruments that easily rival the Ken Smith's/Sadowsky's/etc. made today. Possibly THE most comfortable necks I've ever played. Quirky (overkill?) electronics only add to the unique appeal, IMO. I still own 2 Rico period Rich's, my 1977 Bodine/Eagle bass and my 1979 TJ Mockingbird (longer horn than George's "short" horn version pictured above). Both were purchased from Tom Tyner/Lefty Loser Guitars, a huge BC Rich aficionado, who also had a lefty Wave bass for sale at one time. The Eagle bass is my favorite BC Rich, being the most accessible in appearance and the best in balance and comfort. (Not being a Heavy Metal musician, I personally never cared for the crazier pointy designs of BC Rich's other models). Bernard Edwards of Chic played one, so that should be proof that BC Rich wasn't exclusive to Metal. The Mockingbird is a classic design too, but admittedly they don't balance very well. George, are you keeping the Barts in or did you since install the Dimarzios? FYI, Adirondack Guitars has a 1981 Rico period 8 string Rico Supreme Bass for sale now. Very tempting: http://www.adirondackguitar.com/lefty/used/14/bcr_8.htm |

I think i saw a small few on here but most were warlocks. The Rico era basses.. I can't say enough good things about them. Although I haven't recorded much yet, and just started recording recently, the mockingbird will be my go to for all future recordings. I think we may be the only Rico era owners I've seen on here. The TJ mock is beautiful as is the eagle. Right now, I'm trying to find a good time to drop the mock off to get the Dimarzios installed. Separation anxiety sets in quick so I'm trying to find a day I'll be busy with non-bass stuff to get them installed. I love the Bart's but plan on selling them after the Dimarzios are installed. Tom tyner is a very cool guy. I've spoken to him a few times. He still has a few bc rich basses, including a wave bass, which I think is the only like it I've ever seen. He also had two warlocks and some other stuff. Despite mainly being a heavy metal musician myself, I'm not huge on all of the pointy shapes, the warlock being the only one I've really digged as far as basses go. (Still have yet to find a stealth guitar) and i prefer mockingbird shapes and eagle shapes anyday. I saw the 8 string, first like it I've ever seen. Really a stunning piece. And, one other guy on talk bass also has a great lefty bc rich collection, I've messaged him about his eagle but he's not sure if he wants to sell it yet. hoping to find a deal on one here though! |

Back in the day (late '70s), I seriously considered approaching Rico for a lefty Eagle. Instead, I opted to go with a little known luthier (at the time) in West Hollywood who worked with me to custom build a bass inspired by the Eagle. Similar look and feel, but with the components I wanted -- Koa, Maple, Ebony, Semour Duncan, Schaller, deeper bottom cutaway, etc.... Love this bass. Still one of my go-to basses, especially since I recently updated the active EQ (got sick of receiving radio stations if I turned a certain direction). |

That's a beauty. It reminds me of a crossover between a bc rich eagle and one of those old aria TSB's. sweet bass! |
