I have not been on here for a while, but I got lucky and bought this bass for $300 about a mile from my house. Has a new and stronger stand.

Hey Matt, I've never really used a pre-amp before, what does it do, boost the sound? Cuz I can't even hear it when I bow it. |

Yeah that thing has passive piezos. I used to own one. Just grab a Fishman outboard preamp or something similar. I use a Fishman BII with my Shen upright. You'll be able to control volume & EQ before it hits your amp, I guess not unlike having active electronics in a bass. http://www.fishman.com/product/b-ii-for-acoustic-bass Check out the other preamps as well, the BII is pretty simple. There are others that will give you more EQ options, but so far the BII works great for me. |

Oh cool you had one, that's right I think I remember you selling it. Thanks for the advice. The previous owner also shimmed up the bridge, (they are white, behind the tape measure in this pic):  Do you think they hurt the sound? Jesse offered to make me a taller bridge. |
