Hi, I'm considering buying one of three basses and I would greatly appreciate some input. The first is a Schecter Stiletto Studio 4, the second is an early 90s Peavey Fury (American made) right handed that would be played inverted and the third is a Japanese made Aria Pro II Thor Sound TS-650, also played inverted. Yes I realize that these are VERY different instruments. Does anyone have any experience with any of these? How is the tone? Build quality/durability? I'm looking for a good overall bass that can cover several styles of music, ie classic rock, maybe (MAYBE...) a little jazz and probably even less funk. My current toy budget is limited to about $300 and these seem like interesting options for the price. Any and all input is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks, S- |

I find inverted basses to be way more hard to play then inverted guitars. as far as the specific instruments listed, I haven't played either of them but you always hear good stuff about the stilettos. |

DON'T invert. Get the Schecter. Good basses for the money. |

Agreed. I have a Stiletto Elite 5 and have heard and handled the Studio series. They are very good basses. Not too heavy, well balanced with a fast, comfortable neck profile. They sound great and the tone shaping from the stock pups and preamp are quite versitile. Don't be put off by the "Metal" association that is cultivated by Schecter. You will be well served with the Stiletto Studio. |

Shecter for me too. I have the 4 strings and it is nice and really easy to play. |

What Matt said. Inverting basses always ends up to be a major pain. And as the others said the Stiletto's are great basses for the $$$. Matt R. wrote: DON'T invert. Get the Schecter. Good basses for the money.

Hope I am not too late on the input but +1 again for the Schecters. I have owned or still own: Stiletto Custom: VERY light bass, the lightest of all. A bit more metallic from sound, great bass for slap. Stiletto Studio: 18v electronics, neck-through, the most versatile of the Schecter basses IMHO. Great for slap, great for jazz. I really like that the knobs truly have an effect, even when only tuned a bit, contrary to my experience with Fenders. Actually sold an American Jazz Bass, because I thought the Studio was so much better. I personally think the Studio is the best value of the Schecter basses. Stiletto Elite: beautiful bass, neck-through as well but I think the Studio is more versatile Stiletto Studio Exotic: very similar to the Studio as far as electronics are concerned, but the pickups are different, much wider, meaning that if you rest your thumb on the pickup like I do, you need to extra extend your hand to reach the G string. Also, Bubinga wood looks nice, but my gosh is it heavy, probably twice the weight of the Custom, no kidding. Also, this was a righty that I converted -all others were lefty-. Not my favorite because of the weight and pickups. Finally just got a Damien Elite 5 strings. Jury still out on this one, just got it and it is the first time I play a 5, so... On the overall, Schecters are very nice - underrated - basses. With a bit of luck, you can find a Studio for about $300 used, and this is a great price for a great guitar. Hope this helps! |
