I posted this over at the TB Lull thread as well, thought I'd share here since it's lefty related.

I took the neck off my Mike Lull M5V for the first time to do a truss rod adjustment and found a cool little discovery:

Hard to see but under the marker it says 'Paul Frazier'. a quick google search reveals that he is David Byrne's bassist:

So this neck must have originally been for him but for whatever reason was not used and put into stock.

Why are you taking the neck off? You should be able to adjust the truss rod with the neck on, if you are careful and have the right-size screwdriver. . . Although, shame on Lull for not using a spokewheel design ...

I was tightening it and I wasn't getting a good grip no matter what screwdriver I tried - even with the cutout it's still just too much of an angle. So instead of risking stripping the screw head I just took it off.

Ah, gotcha. The truss in mine has been pretty easy to adjust, but it's really disappointing not to see a spoke wheel nut at this price point.

Not sure what kind of screwdriver you were using, but I always had WAY better luck adjusting my Lull with a really wide slotted screwdriver similar to this...

I think when people see the cross or X there, they think Phillips head... but a Phillips head screw is always dangerous to use at any angle.

If it's a hex head adjustment, ball-end hex keys are where it's at.

Anyway... cool story!

Thanks Addison, yeah I always use a flathead. Even then I was getting the best angle, and hey any excuse to do a little disassembly and explore works for me :)

The only thing worse than a slot-head screwdriver is a Phillips head. God those things are awful in every way. It drives me absolutely nuts that square or hex drives aren't standard on everything.
