Has anyone tried these basses?
They look interesting (very light), and the idea of a short scale (32") is somewhat appealing. Comments?
I saw there's one available at www.newjerseyguitarandbasscenter.com

Don't know about the sound, but the shape reminds me of Tune Basses.... I like the look.

Yes, I ordered one once, but returned it within the trial period. The quality is great and in line with the prices. They are easy to play and are light, of course. My problem was the sound: very thin to my ears. I think this was in part because Birdsong uses guitar pickups. My Rogue Hofner copy has a huge sound that destroys woofers, something that I attribute to those cheap-but-awesome humbuckers.

Also, I had a problem with the placement of the neck pickup; I like to slap here and there and the location of the pickup makes that impossible. I guess that can be remedied with a different pickup location. I also realized that I like basses with full size bodies, so this didn't feel right. The bass I had looks exactly like that one for sale, so it could be the same bass.

I like that Landing short scale they have there...

Both the Birdsong and the Landing were mine. I ordered both new. If you like short scale basses they are both great. The Landing is more P bass sounding with the 1 EMG P pickup and has very solid tone. It has a great lake placid blue finish with pearl white guard. The Cortobass has it's own sound is very easy to play and is more versatile with the 5 position varitone.Short scales were just not for me. Jay (the owner of NJ Guitar and Bass) is a good guy and I do alot of buying/trading with him. He's less than a mile from my house which sometimes is a bad thing.

BTW the scale on the corto bass is 31" and the Landing is 30.5".
