OK, I have never picked up a spector bass. Can anyone tell me about the feel of the 5 string necks? Thick, thin, rounded, etc.

Never played a 5er but have a 4 string. Neck profile is fairly thick. Fairly rounded too.

I spent about an hour trying a lefty 5 string version in cherry that you see on ebay on a regular basis. The string spacing is narrow, and the neck was pretty thick. I found it hard to slap on, for example, but great to play pickstyle on. Sounded like a Spector. Not my tone at all, but not a bad bass either, just not for me. FWIW, I am more of a Fender kind of guy.

Spector Basses come in all shapes and sizes. Some are good and some are great. They are not for everyone. Those of you that know me know I LOVE my Spector basses and have owned at least 20 in the past 6 years. I still have 7 and 2 more coming later when completed. There are fatter necks and thinner necks. You can custom order EUROs in thin profile necks too. I have 4 with the Alex Webster style tapered neck. It rules. The pickups and stock Tone Pump preamp also are not for everyone but I will say the latest 2012/2013 Tone Pump are really nice. They sound different and have a output adjust dial <needed>. I mod all my Spector's. I recently got a Legend5 Bolt on that I plan on modding as well. The neck feels pretty food after a steel wool smoothing ;)

If you have a question on them, ping me PM.

I love my Spectors. For a while, I refused to buy anything but. I have never played a 5er but my 4 has a medium thickness neck. It's actually my favorite part about their design. The width of the neck is absolutely perfect (IMHO). It is thinner than a traditional fender or musicman. The tone is super smooth. You definitely get what you pay for though. Spectors increase in quality exponentially as the price goes up. I probably (now) wouldn't buy one that is under $1000 but when all my gear got lifted I went and bought a used performer for 250 and was satisfied until I was able to get one that was what I wanted. All in all I can't really say anything bad about them!

Rex mthfckn Brown is an avid spector user. & he uses picks exclusively.
