According to Geezer Butler there's a signature model coming. I learned about this yesterday when I was in the bass dept. at the local GC. I was noticing the necks on most of the Laklands feel very nice.

I'm making this post because I understand Lakland will make lefties of most (all?) models.

Last I heard everything but the hollowbody. I wonder what will distinguish the Geezer model?

Lakland necks are VERY nice.

Bit on TB about it. Seems to just be a regular Glaub bass with some cosmetic changes to it.

Lakland will make all of their USA models lefty, but they don't offer any of their imports as a lefty.

I wonder if Lakland still has the magic they used to have... I've heard/read a few reports where people that had a Lakie back in the day bought one recently and were not impressed.

A dealer near was told that if he could get 25 lefties together Lakland would commission a Skyline run of Joe Osborn 5 stringers. The dealer did it, and then Lakland told him that they had to be all the same color after he had collected commitments, and that is where the coaltiion of the willing fell apart

I think that's the Henry "T-model" Ford way. "You can have any color you want as long as it's black!"

That sucks. Sadowsky offered the Metro basses in lefty if enough orders could be collected too (I forget the number, maybe 30). They set a date requiring x amount of orders to be placed by that date and then rescinded the offer before the date they set, claiming lack of interest. Why set the date if you aren't willing to hold the offer to that date? I think the whole thing was so whenever lefties ask about why they don't do lefty Metro basses they can say "we tried it and no one was interested".

Granted I'm not in the studio and can only reference the youtube video but it's intriguing that it appears he using a "mystery" bass even though he' a Lakland endorser.

Of course this is only interesting to Sabbath fanbois

btw, :ugeek: <--- kinda looks like Iommi donchathink?

I might have written something about this. I've had a 1999 55-94 for a while, and maybe two years ago I got to try a brand-new one with the new Lakland electronics. I don't know if my old one had more charm because of the natural aging or because it was built by the original Lakland crew, but to the touch it does have more magic. The new one felt 95% as good - still very high quality instruments. The one thing I had a problem with was that the neck angle (in relationship to the body) of the new was a bit straighter than the old one, resulting in slightly higher action that I would've wanted. I would've had to shim the neck in order to get it where I wanted. I even got to talk to Lakland's general manager, and he said the specs have not changed and the only way to tell if there was something wrong was to ship the bass back to them. . . but I didn't want to go through the trouble. Very nice people and very concerned about customer satisfaction.

In any case, I think that new Lakland still are within the best.

Talking about necks, Lakland necks are very thin, especially on the 4-strings. So if you are a P-Bass baseball-bat neck lover, Lakland might not be for you. Although I would think that they will do custom neck contours on a special order.
