Gosh, are there any lefties out there who own BLACK Fender basses???
I did some custom work on my MIM 2001 lefty Jazz Bass which included a set of active EMG-X P-J pickups. The P-pickup was moved a lot further rearward like the like a full fledged P-Bass, which means it's too far back to fit within a standard footprint of a J-Bass pickguard, so....it's time for a custom pickguard. Whooooopie! 75 bucks.

This guard will be pretty cool though, not only will it be deeper to cover the pickup routing, it'll have a "tailpiece" that curves around and forms the control panel much like a P-Bass. I mean, if you're gonna have a hybid P-J why not add some curious little accents that set it apart from the crowd.

I've always liked a Black-white-black guard on this bass but are there any other options that make a black bass look good? Also, Terrapin is gonna make the pickguard for me, they seem to be good folks. Still gotta ask, are there others who will make a custom like this for less? These fellas are good and I'll spend the extra $10 or $15 for that quality BUT if I'm spending twice what I should, I'd like to know. Thanks Fellas.

Regards,
Glenn

Myself, on black I prefer a black pickguard, otherwise brown tort.
Actually... that might be the case with any colour of bass with me...

I could see black/creme/RW fretboard looking pretty cool too.

I like the black tort more... The red guard seems to be more common on black. Black-on-Black looks good to me!

That fretless looks great. I had a black Strat with the same pickguard and it looked stellar.
