Just got the 2013 Fender Japan catalog & no 5 string Jazz basses listed in the lefty section so I'm guessing they're discontinued. Sales were probably slow domestically & of course unavailable in the rest of the known universe (thanks Fender USA!) plus the Japanese store advertising them on eBay was asking about $4-500 more than what I can get them here or anyone can through Taniguchi so long as they know about them so that would've put players off. They're still making them righty though!! Maybe the 42mm nut put some off as well but having played one lefty 5 I didn't really notice the difference from my usual 45mm Warwicks & the bridge spacing was wider than my 16.5mm Warwicks but not standard wide 19mm Fender so I'd say 17.5-18 spacing which a lot of people might prefer as a happy medium. Anyway Sherman, the moral of the story is if you're after one, be aware as it might make the price rise due to soon to be scarcity or drop due to a need to move stagnant, floor space hogging stock in Japan. I'll do a RnD run in the next few weeks of the stores & ask around so if I get any updates I'll post in this thread.
